About this project
UPDATE 7/21/16: NEW ISSUE 3 COMIC SPONSOR: COSMOS COMICS of Danville, KY! …Over 67% FUNDED!
This KICKSTARTER project is to help publish the comic book, PAPERCUT 2: Issue 3 “Rosemary’s Baby”. The PAPERCUT 2 comic series is based off of a feature film released in 2013, called PAPERCUT 2. www.papercut2.com
This particular comic revolves around a young woman who is 8 months pregnant, “ROSIE”, and her fiancé “CHUCK”. Rosie recollects on past, current, and future events involving herself and others. But Chuck is hiding a dark secret which could threaten the lives of their family, and he will stop at nothing to keep Rosie safe from harm.
This comic book directly ties into the PAPERCUT 2 movies and short films. It also connects all 3 previous comic books into one massive, cohesive, epic story. This comic book is also the LASTPAPERCUT 2 story to be told, which makes it even more special. PAPERCUT 2 comes to a shocking conclusion at the end of issue 3. The PAPERCUT series originally started back in 2005 as a simple short film college project. Over the years a sequel was made, PAPERCUT 2, and it spawned countless spin offs and movie merchandise. PAPERCUT 2 figures, clothing, comic books, and video game NPC characters were created of Rosie and Chuck.
The Issue 3 comic book is completely DONE, 100%! All scripts, pencils, inks, letters, and editing have been completed for issue 3. All that remains now is for the comic to be printed and published. With the help of this KICKSTARTER project, readers from all over the world can enjoy the PAPERCUT 2 finale, 11 years in the making!
Hi, welcome to my comic book crowdfunding campaign! My name is Bryan Sanders. I’m a graphic designer, artist, and filmmaker from central Kentucky. I have worked on many feature films, short films, and TV commercials over the years. One of the first professional films that I worked on was Fire From Below, starring Kevin Sorbo and Glenn Morshower. I was a camera PA, set designer and featured extra on that shoot.
My artwork has appeared in several local and national magazines, newspapers and websites. I worked as an editorial cartoonist for a short while, then made logos and letterhead for clients freelancing. I eventually took up an interest in building movie props and theater costumes. Several of my custom props and wardrobe have appeared in numerous movie productions. Like Hank Braxtan’s Return of the Ghostbusters, Darren Orange’s Inspectres, Eric Henninger’sFriggin’ Aliens, John Norton’s Spades, and UK’s Media Depot Productions Seed & Darkest Dungeon.
When replicating movie props wasn’t enough, I turned to classic cars and made Ash’s EVIL DEAD car and Kyle Reese’s TERMINATOR get-a-way car. Tom Sullivan, creator of the EVIL DEAD Necronomicon, owns a piece from my ‘73 Delta 88.
And the Evil Dead fansite, www.deadites.net did a nice write up on my Sam Raimi Replica!
But my most passionate… and notable project to date, hands down, is my 2013 feature film,PAPERCUT 2.
PAPERCUT 2 was released in 2013. It was a sequel to a 2005 short film I shot in college called,PAPERCUT. The plot for PAPERCUT 2 revolved around CHUCK, an avid video game player, who is dumped by his beautiful girlfriend ROSIE, who is also 4 months pregnant. In his quest to win Rosie back, Chuck fights hippie protesters, drug dealers, mad scientists, occult leaders, and the DEVIL himself!
PAPERCUT 2 also starred several local and national Hollywood stars: Mojo Nixon (SUPER MARIO BROS. MOVIE) reprises his Toad role from the 1993 cult classic. Todd Sullivan, (EVIL DEAD, THE FLY II), voices a possessed 1973 Olds Delta 88 sedan. Laura Kirkpatrick, (Tyra Bank’s “America’s Next Top Model”), plays a damsel in distress. Milton Knight, (KOOL WORLD, SONIC THE HEDGEHOG) plays an evil sentient computer. Matt Forbeck, author and table top game designer, voices a nefarious video game system. Jon St. John (DUKE NUKEM, SONIC ADVENTURE), narrates the film’s trailer and plays himself. 3D animators Ian McIntoshand Jesse Sosa, (GHOSTBUSTERS: THE VIDEO GAME) also cameo in both the movie and comic book.
With the success and popularity of PAPERCUT 2, it spawned another short film, PC2: “Chuck’s New Job” and several comic books. Issue 0 “Kiss from a Rose”, Issue 1 “High Score Part 1”, Issue 2 “High Score Part 2”, and Issue 3 “Rosemary’s Baby”. Chuck and Rosie even appear in a new video game coming out soon called, SnarfQuest Tales. SnarfQuest Tales is based on theSnarfQuest comic strip by D&D artist Larry Elmore. www.snarfquesttales.com. That game was a KICKSTARTER project I backed last year from Cellbloc Studios… I have supported several other KICKSTARTERS since then.
To script, pencil, ink, color, and letter Issue 3 took about 4 months… working mostly by myself. 24/7 on it. I averaged 3 pages a week (penciling & inking) until it was finished. I got some friends to do some additional art and variant covers for me and hired Annie Erksine to color the promotional pages. She is a freelance artist who works for College Humor and Cartoon Network.
With the comic 100% complete, all that is left to do now is publish it. I’m not connected to any major comic label or studio. I’m an independent artist through and through, so printing this comic is very expensive for me. And so I’m seeking help through KICKSTARTER in that regard. I want to print off a small limited run of Issue 3 comic books. To take them to various Q&A book signings, comic cons and art workshops. While also giving the chance for people not in Kentucky to collect and read my comics.
Rosemary’s Baby starts off after the events of PC2: Chuck’s New Job, in which 4 months have passed since PAPERCUT 2. Both Chuck and Rosie are out of work and having a rough go at life. Issue 3 focuses mainly on Rosie who is 8 months pregnant. Unable to sleep, she contemplates her life with Chuck and prepares for their wedding day. But when a mysterious woman makes contact with her, seeking Chuck, it reveals a dark secret that could destroy them all!
As with the PAPERCUT 2 feature film, Issue 3 features cameos by several local and national Hollywood talent! Benjamin Wood (ESCAPE PLAN, NASHVILLE, JURASSIC WORLD) plays Mort beckons in the comic, an evil occult leader. Renee Domenz, (INSPECTRES, SPADES) plays Rosie’s mom April, who is a new character to the series. Ken Huegel, a movie prop master and voice actor, plays the rich playboy millionaire, Taylor Drake. Chris Newman,Jerome Sayers, and Annie Erskine are the featured guest artists in this comic. Jerome Sayers was the lead comic artist for Issue 2, and did all of the interior pages! Jerome Sayerswas also a featured artist for Stephen Zimmer’s Rayden Valkyrie TV Pilot. Which was anotherKICKSTARTER project that I backed and was successfully funded earlier this year!
The previous PAPERCUT 2 comic book, High Score Part 2 Issue 2, featured cameos from Hollywood talent as well! Daniel Taylor (THE RETURN OF SWAMPTHING, THE HOSPTIAL, CAMP MASSACRE) played Dutch. Jason Crowe (FIRE FROM BELOW, OVERTIME, VOLUMES OF BLOOD, THE OLD WINTER) played Hugo the Psycho. Justin Hannah(CONSIGNMENT) played Vincent. Lucas Thompson (INSPECTRES) played Rico. Lee Vervoort (THE WALKING DEAD, REVELATION TRAIL, THE TRUCK) played Honch. AndSteve Pyatte (94 FEET, FIRE FROM BELOW) played Spike. A local Kentucky comedian, Billy Crank, also starred in the comic!
Making a comic book… let alone a feature film, is a very daunting task. There are many artistic and editorial challenges that must be conquered in order to see a finished product. And I’ve ran that gauntlet 4 times already… 7 if you include the feature and short films. One of the reasons why I have been making more comic books lately is that they are insanely cheaper to produce then feature films. You get to DO MORE in the comics, and are not limited to mere budgetary constraints. Your mind is the only constraint! You put on paper what you see in your head. But with the last few comics that I finished, I expanded their budget to rival some small movie productions. Hiring both the best Creative and Artistic talent out there helps make the best comic possible! And below is a quick chart showing the past budgets of previous PAPERCUT stories, which highlights the overall cost of the series.
In order to help achieve my goal of printing Issue 3, I have developed 14 tiered reward packages for backers to support. Each pledge level has a varying amount of rewards attached to it, the higher the pledge, the higher the reward. 10 of the 14 reward packages are geared to the individual backer, with 1 suited for the comic book store/retail backer. And 3 suited for the movie prop collector!
As I’m offering some SCREEN USED movie props for KICKSTARTER backers to pick up. The costumes & props available to backers are from the “Rise of the Triad” video game homage scene in PAPERCUT 2. RISE OF THE TRIAD: DARK WAR or simply ROTT was an early 90’s FPS video game made by Apogee Software/3D Realms. It played like DOOMand WOLFENSTIEN 3D. During the occult scene of the movie, ROTT costumes, weapons, and props were used throughout the set. Joe Siegler, who worked on ROTT and was the boss Sebastian Krist for a level, received a prop from my movie as well. And here is what he said about that!
The overall end game is to get Issue 3 into the most hands possible, and with your help, I can reach that goal! More rewards and “Add-Ons” can be unlocked later at higher funding levels. There are many stretch goals available for this KICKSTARTER project, but my main goal is the first one… and that is to reach $500!
Below is a chart plotting the success of various goals relating to this project. The original goal, first and foremost, is to reach $500 and to give Issue 3 a small physical print run. If funding reaches past that initial goal, in which I hope it does, I have created other stretch goals to keep giving backers new rewards towards their donation. Some stretch goals feature variant artwork and back issue reprint options. Other stretch goals involve new content relating to thePAPERCUT 2 feature film. There are even more bigger and better rewards/add-ons planned, but they can only be unlocked at the higher funding levels.
With a new comic book on the way, I am seeking to partner up with local businesses in order for them to carry the new comic in stock. Both Video Game and comic book stores have carried thePAPERCUT 2 series in the past. But with the release of Issue 3, I’m looking to expand the series to other stores and locations within Kentucky and outside of it. A comic sponsorship or partnership insures that PAPERCUT 2 series items will be offered at your location. And that there will be an Issue 3 Premiere Party for each store sponsor. The Issue 3 Premiere Party is where I (or other creative team members) will show up and promote the comic, answer questions, sign books and interact with the audience. Other deals and refreshments are sure to be going on that day as well, so I plan for that day to be a big event. I may not appear at every preimere party, but I will do everything in my power to be at each event.
If you have a business, comic book shop, game hall, book store, or any other venue in which you would want to carry PAPERCUT 2 items and host a Premiere Party event, contact me and I would love to talk with you.
NEW PAPERCUT 2 ISSUE 3 PREMIERE PARTY SPONSOR!
I’m proud to announce that our FIRST comic sponsor & partnership event will be hosted at COSMOS COMICS in Danville, KY. Date and Time have yet to be determined, but COSMOS COMICS will be one of the very first venues to carry Issue 3 in stock! Thank you for your support!
Hopefully with your help, the backers, I can achieve my goal and print my LAST PAPERCUT 2comic book. The PC2 series ends after Issue 3. 11 years in the making, PC2 finally comes to a close!
But I still have a long way to go and the process is never easy. And I couldn’t have gotten this far without help. So I just want to say thanks to 3 groups of people. First off, I would like to say thanks to the creative team behind PAPERCUT 2. Without you guys there wouldn’t be a comic book or movie series to enjoy! You have helped me tremulously in crafting my vision and realizing my dreams. Secondly, thank you… the fans of PAPERCUT 2. Your support of my artwork keeps me telling stories and making movies year after year. You keep my creative drive alive and this new comic is for you to enjoy because of that. And lastly, I would like to thank God Almighty. For blessing me with the artistic talent that created all that you see. Without it I would have nothing to show! So I want to thank him most of all.
In closing, thanks for giving me the opportunity to be involved within the Kentucky Art and Film Community. PAPERCUT 2’s production used talent and businesses from the bluegrass state to create all artwork needed for the series. That in turn supported both the community and local families. With this recent comic completed, I look forward to making new art and planning more feature films. PAPERCUT 2 is merely the beginning and I have many more stories to tell! And with your help, I will continue telling those stories for another 11 years!
Thank you, and God Bless!
All the best…

PAPERCUT 2, an original story about two young lovers while paying homage to and parodying Pop Culture, Video Games, and 80’s Movies. Made by Fans, For Fans.
PAPERCUT 2, Issue 3 “Rosemary’s Baby” was developed by a small team of experienced comic creators and artists. This KICKSTARTER campaign wasn’t started until we were 99% sure it would be completed, even if we didn’t raise all funds asked for here. However, this KICKSTARTER campaign is a chance for you, dear backers, to help us deliverer custom tailored products straight to your door.
Every project has the potential to be delayed. However, the Issue 3 comic book is DONE, all files are proofed, prepped, and primed for printing. They just need to be sent to the printers for publishing. Outside of an unplanned personal calamity or random act of god, this project will deliver on time. The current release schedule for all rewards is November 2016. A great deal of those rewards will be mailed out well before then. But with this being my first KICKSTARTER project… I want to be sure that I allow ample time to deliver my products in the best possible manner. Which would allow all items to be ready as potential gifts for the Christmas 2016 holiday season.
All DVDs were made using Adobe Encore DVD software and using the NTSC project setting. The DVDs are region free. However some DVD players and oversea backers may experience some issues. I don’t have the ability to test the homebrew DVDs on a PAL unit here at home. And some DVD players might not recognize my homebrew DVDs. The current DVDs that I have here, at my house, are 100% tested and work fully. They play in both Xbox 360s, PS3s, laptop computers, and my Sony DVD player. With that being said, the main function of the PAPERCUT DVDs are merely to compliment your offline video library. As a collectible item for you to have on your shelf. Every movie and video related to the PAPERCUT series are FREE to watch online! Both on YouTube and Vimeo! You do NOT have to have the DVD to enjoy the PAPERCUT series. All videos can be found for FREE, and without ads, at my YouTube channel, “StudioSandman”.
