We are headed to India in February 2016 and raising money to help our partners fight human-trafficking and protect our youth from the sex trade. We have been working with Sanlaap in the red light districts of Kolkata for many years now, and in honor of the late Indrani Sinha, we are pledging our continued support to their programs.
Money raised will be going to the following most pressing needs at Sanlaap’s drop-in centers and shelter homes throughout the city:
*We will be completely revitalizing the Drop-In Center program in the red light district of Kiddepore to operate as a 24/7 shelter. Our funds will first and foremost go to renting a new space for the kids – 25 kids that will overnight at the shelter and 50 that will utilize services during the day. There will be a proper dormitory, kitchen, common area, and latrines. The center will now provide mattresses, bedding, clothing, counseling, educational support, and medical care for the children. Medical care is essential as many of the kids are in need of medical attention for HIV, pregnancy, trauma, and depression. This is so important to the children’s recovery and rehabilitation process.
*100 welcome kits for young children are needed as they enter the shelter homes for the first time – often rescued out of horrific circumstance. These kits will include clothing, shoes, toiletries, blankets, bed sheets, and pillows.
The shelter homes and drop-in centers are incredibly important to protecting our youth, preventing future trauma, and healing past abuse. We fell in love with these programs over the years and hope you will consider helping us reach our goal of $20,000 to complete the above and continue our support to Sanlaap.
