Mercury Cable & Energy offers innovative and cost-effective solutions for the global power transmission grid which dramatically increase the efficiency and power transmission capacity with its high voltage composite core conductors and innovative external messenger support systems.
Today’s power transmission systems are using technology that is over 100 years old and working well beyond their design limits. HVCRC utilizes high strength aerospace composite materials to replace traditional steel core conductors. Replacing the steel core with a composite core offers the following advantages:
1. Doubles the transmission capacity of powerlines;
2. Reduced power line losses.
Because it is made from non-metallic materials, HVCRC does not suffer from inductive interference like traditional steel core conductors. This reduced interference lowers the amount of power lost during transmission.
3. Reduced line sag.
Because the composite materials used to make HVCRC have a much higher heat tolerance, fewer and shorter poles and towers are needed, thereby reducing line construction cost.
4. Increased durability.
Because HVCRC is made from non-metallic materials, it is not susceptible to corrosion as are traditional steel core conductors.
