We are The Adriatic Pantry, a new food company based in Singapore. We connect people with great natural food finds from the Adriatic, and the families who make them.
To make this connection happen, we’ve handpicked five products we love from around the Adriatic and are bringing them to Singapore for the first time. We want to showcase them to chefs and foodies at the Epicurean Market at the Marina Bay Sands in Mid-August which requires significant investment. No-nonsense natural food from the Adriatic
The Adriatic coast is a very special place to us. It’s where Zoran grew up, and where Belle decided she wanted to get married.
It also happens to have some of the best and most award-winning food in the world. And every time we visit, we end up testing the limits of airline baggage allowances with suitcases bursting with cheeses, meats, olive oils, wines and a few weird grappas.
It all comes back to one thing – the ingredients. Ingredients of the highest quality that come from an unspoiled environment and are lovingly cared for by family owned producers. That means, no additives, preservatives, pesticides and chemicals.
The only thing is people just don’t know about it. Yet.
So for the past year we’ve been visiting small-scale family producers to handpick the best of what they have to offer. We’ve met the owners and their families, stood on their farms and orchards, and tasted their products in their cellars.
The top 5 natural food finds
1. NIN FLEUR DE SEL
“Caviar of salt” hand-harvested from the Adriatic sea. Caringly made by the Oštrić family in a salt works dating back to the Roman times, with no additives, no preservatives, and no anti-caking agents. Ideal to top off a variety of dishes and desserts to confer a distinctive, delicate flavor.
2. ISTRIAN OLIVE OIL
If you haven’t tried Istrian olive oil, it’s like you haven’t tried olive oil at all. We have a selection of monovarietal and blended extra virgin olive oils from the top three olive oil producing families all scoring 95+ in the Flos Olei olive oil ratings.
3. EXTRA OLD PAG CHEESE
One of the world’s best cheeses packed with aromas of Pag Island. Produced by a co-op exclusively from the milk of Pag island’s indigenous breed of sheep that graze upon rocky pastures filled with sage and lavender.
4. SLAVONIAN KULEN
Gourmet cured pork sausage with an awesome spicy kick. Made by Mr. Galovic, the “King of Kulen”, from only the best parts of locally raised pigs and seasoned with ground paprika, garlic and white pepper.
5. ISTRIAN TRUFFLES
Strong, highly aromatic truffles from the oak forests of Istria. Hunted by the Karlić family and their specially trained dogs, the truffles are amazing in pastas, omelets and in unique truffle cheese.
How The Funds Will Be Used
Inspired by our friends at Paper Lantern Distilling, we’re not asking for donations, but instead would like to invite you to be one of our first customers at special friends & family prices.
The money raised will be used to fund inventory and a stand at the Epicurean Market at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore from August 12-14. The costs of participating and setting up are considerable, and we’re asking to raise half through this campaign.
Being there would mean a lot to us since we could get the Adriatic Pantry story and our top 5 natural food finds in front of 12,000 visitors.
Most people in Singapore have no idea where the Adriatic or Croatia is, much less what the food is like. We’re under no illusions about that. Which is why we need to get the word out, and get people tasting the products. That of course requires marketing investment.
As small company, we also don’t have the resources or relationships that large food distributors do. Even with a very selective portfolio of products, we still need to carefully manage inventory and cash flow.
Fortunately our backgrounds are in marketing and trading, and with your help in this campaign we’re confident we’ll get to a strong start.
