We are creating the second print issue of Austin-based magazine, SMEAR Magazine.
We decided to create a magazine in March 2015 – an idea that slowly evolved throughout the summer and became SMEAR Magazine in October 2015. We launched the website on October 20, 2015, then released Print Issue 1 in March 2016.
SMEAR Magazine focuses on Austin, publishing features on local artists, people, music and current events. We’ve published a story on Magda Sayeg, internationally recognized as the “mother of yarn bombing,” Super Smash Bros. in Austin, a community of micro-homes to house Austin’s formerly homeless and Austin’s anarchist bookstore, MonkeyWrench Books, to name a few. We also dabble in offbeat comics, concert photography, personal essays and poetry. We want both our creators and our audience to feel personal connections to the work on the website and in print.
Summer 2016 will be dedicated to curating content and designing our second print issue while also continuing to publish content online.
We are looking to release Print Issue 2 on October 21, 2016, a year after the launch of our website. Let’s make it happen!! (◕‿◕✿)
