Sofia’s story

Meet Sofia, a young farmer from Shirak region. Only 26 years old, Sofia has been into farming for 10 years. As one can conclude, she is very experienced farmer. Sofia is married and has two kids who are one and four years old. Together with her husband, she takes care of her pensioner mother-in-law.

Sofia’s farm is mixed and consists of livestock (with cows, calves, oxen, pigs, sheep, and hens) and gardens. In the gardens, she grows barley, wheat, and potatoes. Sofia also grows grass to use it as forage for her livestock.

She applied for this loan to pay for fertilizer, purchase four oxen, and pay for previous credit liabilities. This will improve her daily living and give her a chance to provide better conditions for her kids. Sofia thanks you and hopes for this Kiva support.

This loan is special because:

It enables female farmers to improve their livelihoods without additional risk.

More about this loan

This loan provides access to local currency financing at a fair price to female farmers in Armenia. Much of the existing agricultural lending in Armenia is done in USD, making farmers take on currency risk and exposing them to currency rate fluctuations. By supporting this loan, you enable farmers to freely expand their income generating activities.
