Circular Fashion Fibres – We have turned old textiles into new yarn to create a fashion collection with positive impact

iCrowdNewswire - Jul 12, 2016

Circular Fashion Fibres

We have turned old textiles into new yarn to create a fashion collection with positive impact.

About this project

Our story

We love fashion & textiles. It gives a a reflection of ourselves. We can use it to express what we like, who we are and what is important to us.

But it also gives very mixed feelings. The fashion and textiles business is one of the most environmental unfriendly industries in the world. In Europe and Northern America there is 15 million tonns of textile waste.

Just imagine: this equals the weight of 4 million elephants! And it is a real waste because 95% has the potential to be recycled. We think it is time to address the elephant in the room. Or to be more precise 4 million elephants.

We believed that we had to do things differently.

So we did. Welcome to ReBlend!

Open doors!

We will hold Open Door Sessions for you to see & and feel the yarn as well as the collection!

The open door sessions will be held in the studio of BYBROWN (July 14, Amsterdam), Gildelab (July 20 or 21, Amsterdam), the premises of SYMPANY (July 28, Utrecht) as well as Circular Economy (July 29, Amsterdam) in The Netherlands. We would be happy to see you, please apply at www.reblend.nl

This is what we do

We became intrigued by the fact that recycling is focused on pure materials (100% cotton, wool or polyester). What we wear is mostly a combination of materials. It is easy to see that this creates a huge gap between theory and reality!

So we use an actionable and pragmatic approach. What can be done in a positive responsible way? – instead of disregarding a huge part of the current, mostly blended, textile waste. The textiles are sorted by hand providing employability to people with poor job prospects. The next steps are industrial; shredding, adding a supplement of recycled polyester from PET bottles for extra strength and subsequently spinning new yarn. Using post-consumer textile waste in an ecological friendly process gives yarn with a positive ecological impact!

Why we need your support

We need your support to kickstart production of our first collection. We have started our development journey with the support of DOEN foundation and dutch textile collector Sympany.

Co-founder Anita and Joanneke have boottrapped ReBlend so far with their tme and money to bring ReBlend to market, but we need your help to cross the finish line. We will start producing at 20.000 euro. This will cover the first part of our development costs (development of the yarn, making the knitwear and woven samples) and of course the production costs for the items to be produced

Who we are

We, Anita de Wit and Joanneke Lootsma, the executive board of ReBlend have over 20 years of experience with innovation, change management and development in different markets and in both large corporate and small social enterprises. We work together with front running partners from the textile chain to create an effective cross-disciplined team. Timeline

Risks and challenges

We have a production line set up with our partners who are used to manufacturing and shipping so the process should not be at risk. There are no obvious major challenges right now and the yarn and the prototypes are performing really well.
Another aspect is of course the lead time if we exceed the pledge by a lot.We have more than enough fabric so we can handle a substantial order over the summer. All backers should have their products in September and if not we will notify you in advance.
