Highlight the great businesses on Livernois and wonderful entertainers and it will promote a complete street by activating bike lanes, alternative parking and a shuttle from 8 Mile to 6 Mile.
Jazz on the Ave. – University Commons host this event with the Ave. of Fashion Business Assoc. and the Businesses on Livernois. This event is always in conjunction with the City Wide Arise Detroit Neighborhoods Day. The intent is to bring the community together for family activities and celebrate the wonderful communities, great business, good music and children’s activities. This event is also used to promote the great shopping opportunities on Livernois.
This initiative began in 2008. Since that time it has engaged several thousand local residents and people from Ferndale, and Royal Oak to partake in good food, good music, family fun and great shopping. This also increases neighborhood pride to those that live in the area and incentivize neighborhood stabilization. The event helps to create a sense of place by activating the street. Utilizing local artists and entertainers from the community it promotes business. The event increases walkability, creates a sense of security, and further develops neighborhood beautification and stabilization.
This events has showcased 250 local entertainers, engaged 50 sponsors, hosted at least 6,000 patrons in the past since 2008.
Currently we have activities planned for 3 sound stages. One at Mike’s Market, one at 1917 American Bistro and one at New Prospect Parking Lot at Livernois and Pembroke. We are asking for help to fund the 3 sound stages and the Shuttle for the day along with some street decorations for the event. Once we receive the funding we will contract the shuttle and stages for the event.
Highlight the businesses on Livernois and help to develop the streetscape.
