Escapade Adventure Therapy

A project by: Sara Firth

Light hearted adventure, skills for life.

I’m raising £1950 to start up Escapade a limited company that supplies adventure therapy to youth in the Southampton area. Escapade will help young people develop essential skills before adulthood, helping their confidence, social behaviour, and self-worth as well as supporting good mental health.

My name is Sara Firth

I studied outdoor adventure management at Solent University. Currently I am a team leader in a children’s residential home, all children I look after have emotional behavioural disorders. I have a true passion for the youth of today, and the importance of having access to support to develop essential life skills.

What I’m doing, why I’m doing it, and why you should help!

– I’m developing an agency to take young people out of their ‘normal settings’ and giving them a chance to challenge themselves socially, physically and mentally.

-This is important to me because I have seen numbers of children in Southampton who struggle with mental health problems who may lack social skills and self esteem.

– By giving money to help fund this project you are investing in Southampton’s youth, their possibilities and potential in the future.

Adventure Therapy is a great natural therapy for young people check out the linked study from Create that has been proven to benefit young people in many ways ; Adventure therapy it is effective!

What’s Escapade doing with the money?

If I raise my minimum funding to start up Escapade the money will be spent on licences, marketing to young people, and a small pack of activity equipment to get the adventure therapy sessions started.
If I raise a further £500 I plan to buy some water sports equipment to utilise the South coast. If I manage to raise even more funding for Escapade, more equipment will be brought to help aid the sessions, keeping them modern, interesting, and new for the young people.
Breakdown of start up costs:
£750 AALA Licence
£500 activity session bundle (ropes, cones, balls, orienteering equipment)
£50 Logo design
£100 Leaflet, business card, and poster printing
£100 web developer
I am extremely excited and motivated and I am hoping to hold four start up sessions this summer.
