Rentcharlie: A Rent-Anything Website

by James Anderson

Neighbor-to-neighbor rentals! Rentcharlie puts you a click away from all you could possibly need, but couldn’t possibly need to own.

About this project

Rentcharlie recently launched a new, free-to-use platform. The aim of the site is to connect little-used items with people who would like to use those items.

Listers can profit from stuff that was previously gathering dust in their home or garage. For those renting items, Rentcharlie provides the opportunity to tackle a project or try a new hobby, without the constant need to buy more things. Trailers, power tools, sports equipment, camping supplies–possibilities abound for renting rather than buying.

The Platform was designed to be fast, smart and local.  It allows renters to find whatever they need within close proximity, with the goal of connecting neighbours first.

Rentcharlie is helping people make money and save money by renting stuff they already have–all for free. But we need to get the word out. In order for the site to work, we need more renters and listings. We need multiple ways to let people hear about the benefits of renting, for communities, individuals and our planet.

If you like the concept, we have some really cool t-shirt designs, so support our business by listing some items you have around your house, renting something for your next project or adventure, or by taking your Charlie Tee for a walk. 😉

Risks and challenges

Rentcharlie is a community driven project, and so it can only work with the support of the people that use it. A successful campaign will allow us to spread the word. It will give people the chance to think about renting as an alternative to buying. But this will require a shift-change in consumer thinking.

The Rentcharlie team is committed to break down barriers, which might make people hesitate about renting out their items to strangers. Like other sharing communities before us, we will build trust between neighbours and develop insurance and vetting policies for users to keep our site, and your belongings, safe and secure.
