A contemporary hip-hop dance theatre project about many kinds of love
Fly No Filter is a new hip-hop theatre venture directed by Lucy Crowe (SIN Cru and SINstars) combining b-boying, contemporary dance, physical theatre, creative writing, spoken word and the subversive culture of hip-hop. Glorious is the company’s first touring piece, supported by Arts Council England.
From a critical view of the female role in hip-hop culture to lessons in folding paper aeroplanes,Glorious is an exposé of the controversial emotions surrounding motherhood, adolescence, growing up and letting go. We will produce an unfiltered social commentary on contemporary life, with the final production providing a means to inspire audiences and provoke debate.
A short extract of the work-in-progress was shown at Livevibe: Generations at the Peacock Theatre earlier this year. The piece is now being developed into a longer work suitable for touring to a range of indoor theatre venues.

We are very grateful to Arts Council England for substantially supporting the company’s first venture. Your donation will enable us to create a new soundtrack for the production, and to work with dance artist Kenrick Sandy as guest choreographer on this project.
Glorious will be performed at Hotbed Festival on 7 July and at TROOPfest on 22 July. We look forward to seeing you there!
Although Fly No Filter is a new venture, Lucy has been creating work for the theatre since 2000. As Artistic Director of SIN Cru Theatre, Lucy directed two Arts Council England-supported tours and presented work at The Place, Stratford Circus and Sadler’s Wells in London, The Festival Theatre in Edinburgh, and at dance theatre platforms including Breakin’ Convention, Move It and B.Supreme.
For this project, Lucy is supported artistically by guest choreographer Kendrick Sandy. Marketing and audience development support is provided by Menagerie Theatre, programmers of Hotbed Festival. We are therefore confident of creating a well-executed and well-attended theatre performance to launch this new venture and introduce Fly No Filter to the touring theatre circuit.
95% of our funding has already been awarded; we are seeking the final 5% to cover music production and artistic mentoring.
