Kyle and Rachel’s story

Kyle: Hello! I am a NorCal native, born and raised in Grass Valley, CA. Being from a small town doesn’t provide much opportunity, so I love living the in Bay Area now. I live in Lafayette with my fiancee Rachel. Both of my parents are entrepreneurs, and have started their own businesses, so I grew up always wanting that for myself. After almost a decade of bartending, Rachel came to me with her idea of creating an online wellness community, and asked me if I was interested in chasing that entrepreneurial spirit. I am currently taking business training from Marie Forleo, and will be managing the business side of Wright Wellness Center. My dream is to help people live more valuable lives, while understanding that they are responsible for adding that value to their day to day life.

Rachel: Hi! I am a Northern CA native (born in SF and raised in Walnut Creek) and am so happy to be living here again, with my fiancee, after spending almost 15 years in Southern CA! I am currently living in Lafayette, with my amazing fiancee (and business partner, Kyle) and we are getting married in October. I currently work as a Marriage Family Therapist Intern in private practice, seeing clients both in person and remotely (thanks Skype!). My biggest dream for the future is to take my training from my Master’s Degree and clinical experience and be able to help more people. My dream is to have a business that can support us, our family, AND help thousands of people. I always knew I wanted to run my own business. I never dreamed that I’d get to do it with my partner in life!

More about this loan

Business Description

Wright Wellness Center is an online wellness center and community helping to bridge the gap between a self-help book and a therapist’s office through our courses and community.

There is a huge gap between buying a self-help book and going to therapy. This gap is there for many different reasons: financial, time-based, stigma, fear, etc. The life-coaching field has attempted to fill this gap, making working with someone for the purpose of positive change less stigmatized. However, life-coaching has evolved into often being more expensive than therapy. In addition, it is an unregulated field in the United States.

People love self-help and self-improvement. Its time this information came to people in a format that makes personal development more accessible, from a licensed or registered professional, and from a company they trust. We want to help people have easier access to this information.

Our customers will be people who have been in therapy or who have hired a coach, are currently in therapy or working with a coach, have thought about going to therapy or getting a coach, and people who are driven towards self-improvement. In addition, people who are already using the internet as a tool to connect, since we are a solely online business.

We are so proud to be starting a business that can help make therapeutic and health education more accessible and affordable without sacrificing quality. We started this business because we are both passionate about helping people live lives that they are happy in (and we knew we wanted to work really hard, together!)! Living in the Bay Area is very tough financially, and as much as we would love to be able to fund our own business, we are unable to do so. So, funding has been our biggest challenge. We have done all of the work that we possibly can up until this point and are ready for the next step!

What is the purpose of this loan?

This loan will ensure we can start the business successfully.

There are four main avenues this loan will be used for:

1. Incorporating the business as a LLC, through our lawyer. $2500

2. Web Design and Branding. We have found an amazing designer and branding specialist that will assist us is making sure WWC’s website looks and runs professionally. Because our company is solely online, this is our largest and most important expense. This will ensure that the front and back end of our website works perfectly. $6500

3. Software integration. 5 months of software we need to host our courses properly, as well as any other membership content. $500

4. Professional Photos for our website/social media platforms. Online businesses really need an outstanding visual aesthetic to stand out from other sites, and we want to make sure we are ahead of the game with some high quality photography to demonstrate our attention to quality. $500

This loan will open every door that is currently closed to us, due to financial reasons. We are so excited as business partners, and as life partners for this option of funding. The largest (and scariest) road block in our way is funding the launch of the company. This loan will allow us to launch Wright Wellness Center.
