About this project

 

It is a completely new way of understanding, performing and producing an opera play. Gulliver is a fully equipped mobile opera stage that comes ready to play: it arrives on the site, the ceiling opens up, and the automated marionettes show begins. It is a free interpretation of Gulliver’s travels: the story depicts Gulliver’s quest to find answers to the deepest questions on human nature through a futuristic journey in space.

 

Gulliver is a fully equipped mobile opera stage that comes ready to play in a medium sized 6 m trailer. It arrives on the site, the ceiling opens up, and the show can begin. The marionettes will be moved by more than 70 little electric servo engines and more than 250 air pistons. No technicians or musicians are required, which makes it affordable and easy to move.

 

The libretto is based on Gulliver’s travels, a universal classic as a satire on human nature. It mixes elements of the children’s story with profound reflection about humanity. In that way, Gulliver Dream is a story for all ages. 

Our Gulliver travels into deep space driven by his obsession to discover the origin of the gravitation wave: the origin of everything. On this journey he discovers four planets that confront him with four powerful questions: the technological overkill, the human desire, immortality, and wisdom. He deals with all that in his particular way. In the end he discovers the true nature of himself and his destiny.

 

The music is a commission to Australian composer Elena Karts-Chernin. It is played by twelve electroacustic programmable instruments. 

The nine voices, including a children choir are recorded.

Risks and challenges

We would like to compensate our team for their hard work on this opera play. Everyone involved has given their very best for this project to come true, setting the main priority on the technical development of the mobile stage, the music and all the automated elements so they can see the light on July 8th at the GREC Festival in Barcelona.
