BIG BAND JÚNIOR | RECORDING OF CD | IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE “ASSOCIAÇÃO PORTUGUESA DE CHARCOT MARIE TOOTH”

Fundraising for recording and editing of a CD by Big Band Junior. The surplus of raised funds will be donated to the “Portuguese Association of Charcot Marie Tooth”.

It is part of the Big Band Júnior’s mission to provide its students the opportunity of experiencing some of the moments that inhabit a professional musician’s life. For that reason, in July 2016, the band will be recording a CD in a professional studio. For most of these young musicians, it will be their first time in a professional recording studio. We are sure that, for some of them, it will be a dream fulfilled and a ‘giant step’ in their lives.

We are confident that this fundraising campaign will exceed its goal. For that reason, the BBJ will donate the surplus of the funds to the Associação Portuguesa de Charcot Marie Tooth (APCMT), founded by Diogo Lopes, pianist at the BBJ

The APCMT goal is to inform and raise awareness among the general population, and among the medical community, about the degenerative disease Charcot Marie Tooth (CMT). The funds raised through this crowdfunding campaign will be applied in two programs: “CMT – Informing to raise awareness and to educate” and “CMT – Informing to Guide”. These two programs support the need of raising awareness about CMT and its inherent problems, among the civil society and the science and medical communities, respectively.

As a generous gesture of incentive towards the Big Band Júnior’s work, and of solidarity towards the APCMT, the musicians Mário Delgado, Mário Laginha, João Paulo Esteves da Silva, Gonçalo Marques and Maria João have accepted our invitation to perform in the recordings of this CD.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

The Big Band Junior (BBJ) is a jazz orchestra-school with 15 to 20 musicians between 12 and 17 years old. Born in October 2010, it was created through a partnership between Centro Cultural de Belém, Hot Clube de Portugal and Orelha Viva.

The mission of the BBJ is to raise the interest for jazz among young musicians, providing experience and training to its students as musicians in a jazz orchestra and giving them the opportunity to experience moments that are usually part of the life of a professional musician.

The BBJ has weekly rehearsals at the Hot Clube de Portugal Jazz School. In each academic year the orchestra has a season of at least 3 concerts at the Centro Cultural de Belém.

The Orchestra-School Big Band Junior has as artistic directors Alexandra Ávila Trindade and João Godinho, and as musical and pedagogical director and conductor Claus Nymark. The orchestra musicians are:

  •  Frederico Araújo, clarinet, 14 years old
  • Artur Leitão, alto saxophone, 16 years old
  •  Francisco Lomba, alto saxophone, 14 years old

In a gesture of great generosity, to encourage the work of the BBJ and in solidarity with APCMT, musicians Mário Delgado, Mário Laginha, João Paulo Esteves da Silva, Gonçalo Marques e Maria João accepted our invitation to participate in the recording of this CD!
