Unlocking the talent of inner-city youth suffering from trauma

1 in 4 inner-city youth witness a murder by 17. Two-thirds experience at least one traumatic event. 1 in 3 develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The emotional and cognitive impacts of trauma are keeping millions of youth from developing into the great leaders they can be. We’re launching MindRight, a nonprofit to unlock the talent of inner-city youth by helping them recover from trauma.

For many teens, their pain is the status quo. As one said, “you’re expected to live this way.” With our mobile messaging platform, we’re reaching kids where they are – their cell phones. Our technology helps youth take the crucial first steps in the healing process by sending daily messages that:

Empathize by helping youth build emotional awareness

Normalize the impacts of trauma through psychoeducation

Stabilize day to day stressors by teaching positive coping skills

We’ve been piloting for 6 weeks. One user said, the app “helps me get back up again.” We have a waitlist of schools and nonprofits representing 3,000+ students. Your donations will go to product development and scaling pilots in LA, DC, New Jersey, and Philadelphia.

We all know that facing adversity early in life can transform us into extraordinary leaders. If we can help inner-city youth survive everything they endure, what can’t they do?

Join us in making this vision a reality for our kids.
