This July, the TESA Travels team will be in the Eastern Cape of South Africa to raise awareness of rhino conservation. During this time we’ll be visiting local communities, backpacking hostels, game reserves and collaborating with other charity projects. We aim to reach as many people as possible, and plan to, at the end of our journey, host an event exhibiting our achievements. Stay tuned!
Who are we?
Thandi’s Endangered Species Association (TESA) is a non-profit organisation founded by Angie Goody in 2012. To read Thandi’s story and find out where it all began, please visit our website –www.tesawildlife.org/thandi-st…
Becky Howlett, TESA‘s Campaign Coordinator, will be representing TESAalongside African Rose Photography on their Campaign, #TESAtravelsthroughout the Eastern Cape.
Alex Floyd-Douglass of African Rose Photography is currently based in Cape Town, South Africa. Since having returned back to her roots in 2013, she has pursued her career in Professional Photography, and is passionate about being involved with social projects. Together, TESA and African Rose have formed the campaign; #TESAtravels.
About our campaign
We are running a huge campaign in order to raise awareness and funds surrounding the importance of Rhino Conservation and to further prevent the devastating effects of Rhino Poaching in South Africa. In order to achieve this successfully, we have collaborated to promote #TESAtravels throughout the Eastern Cape, and hopefully along some of the Garden Route. We aim to engage with various backpackers, schools and communities to hand out informative resources and improve people’s knowledge of conservation and the importance of protecting their wildlife.
Through the #TESAtravels journey, we will be promoting over all major social media platforms, and as we travel, we will be documenting the entire process. Our end goal is to hold a photography exhibition where we’ll sell the best prints from our journey. Proceeds from this sale will be donated to Thandi’s Endangered Species Association.
Our Milestones
– To raise enough money to fund our trip, with the remainder going directly to Thandi’s Endangered Species Association. Our journey’s time frame is dependant on funds raised, therefore the longer we can travel for, the more awareness and insight we can give!
– Provided we achieve our first milestone, we aim to travel through the Eastern Cape, focusing on the backpacking and local communities to raise awareness of Rhino conservation and poaching, whilst collaborating with various NPO’s to spread the word.
– To provide insight into what TESA is all about and how people can help in the future, therefore keeping the campaign an ongoing success.
– To host a photographic exhibition and event presenting our efforts and achievements from the campaign, with all artwork on sale to donate to the charity. TBC for August 2016 in Cape Town.
How much do we need?
As we all know, travelling can be a pricey endeavour. We are reaching out to our backpackers community in the Eastern Cape in hope they can provide various accommodation options, however this cannot be relied on fully. There are a few mandatory expenses such as accommodation, fuel, and insurance, let alone extra costs and unforeseen circumstances. Our end goal is to reach R20,000 before we start our journey during the first week of July. We aim to give back to those that can assist with our Rewards system – check it out and see what you can do!
A big thank you!
