WHAT IS POWERCHAIR FOOTBALL?

Powerchair Football is a sport that allows people with various disabilities to play Football with the use of specially adapted chairs, using bumpers to kick around a ball in a 4-a-side styled team format. However, not all the rules are the same, for example there is a 2 on 1 rule to cover the offside rule but contact and rules such as sportsman conduct is taken seriously on court to maintain a friendly and still competitive, atmospheric field of play. The sport has evolved in the United Kingdom over the years with hundreds of clubs starting all across the country, proving that the popularity of the sport is becoming more popular for those with disabilities because they get to play a sport, they would otherwise be unable to play without the aid of these specific chairs to play in.

PLAYER STORY

I’ve been playing this sport for more than 5 years now and it has been one of the most exciting sports to partake in, with myself playing in the Premiership and the Regional League and being in the top percentage of players as our team is currently sitting 4th as of the 2015/16 season has finished, with the potential of our team getting into the European League if we finish above 4th in the oncoming 2016/17 season. For us to get to this ambitious stage I need to purchase a chair, the Strikeforce, a custom built chair for the elite players as it allows the user to kick the ball better and provide a wide range of additional attacking options but the cost of this chair is the main issue and is the main reason I need your help.

It would also improve my chances of being selected for the England team in the future, if there I was to have access to this specialist chair and master the fundamentals of the chair and prove that I’m skillful enough to make the team. As of now, my personal aim is to get our team to Europe, so that our team gets the chance of experiencing the sport on a much higher and competitive level.

I train once per week for two hours at the local sports facility allowing me to train hard, expand on my knowledge in the sport and to try and master new exciting skills.

COSTS

£6640 is the minimum cost for the chair (the image of the chair is displayed below).
