Pratima is a 33-year-old woman who lives in the village named Dakshin Parengerpar in Falakata, West Bengal. She is married to Subhash and blessed with two children (one son and a daughter). Her daughter is studying in grade nine and her son is in grade 10. Pratima is illiterate and can sign only their names.
Pratima is a homemaker. Her husband has been running a Toto rickshaw and provides transportation services to his local area to meet the family’s expenses. A Toto rickshaw is a battery-operated rickshaw used for transportation service; it is widely used in the rural areas of West Bengal.
But now her husband’s Toto rickshaw is damaged and requires maintenance to keep it in its functional routine. For the past few days, it has not been working properly and the tire has been punctured, so he has not been able to generate any income. He wants to repair it as soon as possible. However due to a lack of money, he finds it difficult to cover the cost of repairing the Toto rickshaw.
Therefore, as a member of BJS, Pratima decided to help her husband and requested a loan from Kiva’s partner, BJS, to purchase good quality tires and cover the cost of repairing his Toto rickshaw. She also wants to use the loan to buy auto mechanic tools to keep in stock for repair work. This loan will help her husband to continue his business smoothly. Pratima and her husband are thankful to Kiva and BJS.
