Tier 1 Gaming Lounge
I grew up in Milwaukee with a passion for games starting with Super Mario World on the Super Nintendo when I was 2 years old! As I grew up I always followed the latest games: Smash Bros., Halo, Call of Duty, Street Fighter, League of Legends, Dota 2. My best memories were playing in epic Halo 2 LAN parties or feeling the chilling tension of a Street Fighter tournament. I want to create an environment where people can come and make those memories themselves.
I was born and raised by my industrious Chinese immigrant parents. They opened a restaurant from scratch with broken English and a lot of hard work. I started helping out at the restaurant when I was 12 years old and gradually learned the aspects of owning and managing a restaurant over the next 10 years. However, my parents did not want me to inherit all the stress and long hours that comes with owning a restaurant and always pushed me to get a college education and a comfy job in some office. After college, I worked in at New York Life Insurance as a personal finance and investments job for a year. While it made decent money and did not require grueling hours I didn’t feel like I could make it my build my life from it. After much thought I wanted to create a business that incorporated what I loved, video games with the same pioneer spirit that my parents had before me. By chance I met Patton, my business partner, who used to own a gaming center back in Vietnam and together we created Tier 1 Gaming Lounge.

More about this loan
We started planning Tier 1 Gaming Lounge last February and are nearing our grand opening at the end of this spring. Tier 1 is our example of a modern arcade. It will have the newest video games and computer games available for play by the hour to our customers in addition to a cafe with food and drink. We moved into a storefront near the south suburbs of Milwaukee and are just finishing up remodeling.
Video games keep improving year after year but the community continues grows farther apart; game developers promote online play and continually take away from split screen and local area network gaming. Games are now hard to play together in the same room with games are requiring one system per person and the removal of split screen play. More and more gamers are playing but they are playing less with real people and less with their friends. In addition to a place where you can come play with your friends, we will host tournaments and other events where you can meet new people and make new friends and memories.
What is the purpose of this loan?
We are going to spend the loan on new games and add 16 more Xbox One set-ups. Each set-up will cost about ~$600 consisting of the console, monitor, headset, desk, and networking. This loan will help grow our business by allowing us to host Xbox One tournaments and LAN parties for games such as Halo, Gears of War, and Call of Duty.
Years in operation: 6 months – 1 year
