Youth Services Program Urgent Van Replacement

Every summer, for the last 30 years, 150 youth participate in the Trinise Jones Summer Day Camp. These are children whom would otherwise not have the opportunity to participate in a fun, educational summer camp due to the typical extreme costs of these programs. However, we offer seven weeks to these youth at an affordable rate. Most of our students attend on scholarship, an extremely discounted rate. During the summer, the children enjoy weekly field trips, cooking, art and dance classes, trips to the pool every Tuesday and Thursday and a 3 day camping trip. Although, we spend a lot of time ensuring the children have fun our focus is on their education. Our teachers work diligently to prepare each child for the next school year. Each camper receives 84 instructional hours in Math and Language Arts and 18 hours of STEM learning. Our involvement with the children does not stop once the school year begins. We operate an After School Program to assist the youth with homework completion and critical subject tutoring.

This summer however, we have a serious need. The vans that we use to transport the children year round are no longer operable. Inner County Outreach provides a necessary, urgent need in Harford County. We offer services to families and children who live below the national and state poverty levels and often times are not considered for services because they do not live in a large city. Due to the economic status of ICO’s clients, in order to successfully fulfill our mission, it is imperative that we offer reliable transportation. Our clients rely on ICO to provide transportation to and from the programs we provide. Currently ICO is operating in dire need. We have three 15-passenger vans (2-completely irreparable and out of commission; 1-experiencing engine problems) and a bus. The vans were purchased in 1999 and 2001. For over 15 years, the vans have transported thousands of children from various Harford County schools to our After School Program, to educational and fun field trips across the east coast during the summer and school year, delivered thousands of household products to poverty stricken families, taken “at-risk” youth to 16 camping trips and have been an essential part of the transportation services we offer to the participants of our youth & health services programming. After 15 years of heavy duty use, it is not difficult to ascertain that the vans are no longer functioning safely. The safety of our children is paramount to the employees and volunteers of ICO.

We humbly request your assistance in purchasing three previously owned 15-passenger vans to support our youth services programs. After researching available vans we settled on three 2012 E350 Ford Passenger Vans. The vans have varying mileage and costs however the average cost is $16,625.00/van.

For 30 years Inner County Outreach has provided a summer day camp for under-privileged youth in our community. We desperately need to replace our vans to ensure the safety of the children.
