Think about the future, not the near future. ~ Simone Smit
Who am I
As a woman, environmentalist, humanitarian, scholar and child of the earth, I have embarked on an incredible journey towards Miss Earth 2016, eager to drive change in our environment and communities and really need your support. With your help, it is within our power to generate change within the communities of South Africa and promote sustainability and the importance thereof.
My statement
The effects we have on the earth and the environment have reached a stage where we can no longer ignore it. We all have a role to play in climate change, depletion of resources and extinction of species. The time has come to spread awareness, educate our communities and make the necessary changes in order to preserve our planet. Sustainable living is the future and we need to adapt, quickly.
My Mission
Being a Western Cape Regional Semi-Finalist of the Miss Earth Leadership and Empowerment Programme, I have the opportunity to initiate change. Through using the vehicle of environmental education, the Miss Earth programme aims at empowering young women with the knowledge and platform to create a sustainable difference in our plight to combat the destruction of our natural heritage.
In order to advance to the next stage of the programme, and continue the projects and educational programmes that I am currently working on, I have to raise R6500 by 2Oth June. These funds will be the determining factor of the projects and campaigns initiated by Miss Earth and the success thereof, should I advance and become a Regional Finalist. The projects are based on the theme Waste Stops With Me where preservation of biodiversity, conservation of our natural heritage and protecting eco-tourism all have a role to play.
With your assistance, it is in my power (in conjunction with yours) to generate change in South Africa and ensure that our children have a long and prosperous future. Miss Earth initiate and run several programmes for the young ladies who make the final selection into this leadership initiative from around South Africa. These programmes are socially and environmentally based and cover environmental issues such as energy efficiency, food security, water and waste management, conservation and eco-preneurship.
The Journey
Once these funds have been raised by the 20th June and I have planted the 10 indigenous trees that have graciously been donated by Cape Garden, and conducted my waste project with grade 3 pupils, the Regional Finalists will be selected and announced on the 4th July 2016.
My background, briefly…
Since completing my Honours Degree on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Masters Degree on Hydraulic Fracturing in the Karoo, I have found myself compelled towards doing something about the issues we face as a country and societies across the globe. The Miss Earth SA is an award winning organisation that aims at empowering young women through the vehicle of environmental education
I hope to reach the end of this programme and use my passion, the knowledge I acquire daily and support I receive, to generate change and develop sustainable communities throughout South Africa. To help preserve our planet, for if we do not look after the earth, the earth cannot look after us.
No one got anywhere without help, standing together, we can make a change.
Thank you kindly for your support.
