FanBlue – Ceiling Fan – Home Automation

Stay Cool with FanBlue!

About this project

FanBlue is a remote-controlled ceiling fan module which uses Android mobile app software over Bluetooth communications. FanBlue installs in the wall, replacing the standard light switch or rheostat. With our product, homeowners can install as many FanBlue units as they desire, as long as the home is wired properly. If you don’t own a ceiling fan, you can still use FanBlue to control basic lighting as well. We recommend controlling low-powered LED lighting only.

If we’re able to achieve our goal, the funds will be used to secure UL safety certification for our product. Although our product has been tested successfully for 2 years, having  the safety mark on FanBlue by a national certification body assures better marketability and consumer confidence. The remaining funds will be used to manufacture the unit’s white face plate using plastic injection technologies.

During this campaign we will incorporate other marketing/promotional methods to raise awareness of FanBlue.  We will reach out to residential homeowners in new communities to determine their level-of-interest in FanBlue.

Risks and challenges

One of the challenges of bringing FanBlue to market is the UL safety certification process. This process for achieving the safety mark is rigorous and expensive, and that’s why we need your support.

A second challenge is making our product multi-platform compatible with IPhone (IOS). Some features we have incorporated with Android (like Host-USB support) are not currently supported on the IOS hardware platform.

We have an IOS Beta app, but development is still in progress with it. This campaign will focus on the Android platform only, and if we’re successful, we will offer IOS support later on.
