A CHARITABLE FUNDRAISER BY
Parker Hill Community Church
Songs for Freedom is a country-wide singing competition that has been called “Haitian Idol.” It is organized by the Restavek Freedom Foundation as a way to raise awareness of the “restavek” system of child slavery.
$15,000 will fund a regional Songs for Freedom contest where contestants write original songs about the restavek
issue. Winners from each regional competition compete in the Grand Finale in the capital city, Port au Prince. This exciting competition especially rallies the youth and church communities in Haiti.
Haitians love music, and songs have a way of breaking down barriers and influencing hearts and minds making this a perfect medium through which to engage the culture.
Here is what one of the attendees recently shared: “After attending this competition, my heart is transformed… I thought it was normal for a child working at home to be treated with harshness and brutality, but when I see all these activities with the sole purpose of saying, ‘THIS IS NOT RIGHT,’ I quickly understand that it is urgent to change my position.”
Your donation can help us host another event and continue to spread this message. Thank you so much for supporting Songs for Freedom!
