My name is Latasha and I was born and raised in South Philadelphia, as the youngest of three. I went to BOK vocational high school in South Philadelphia and I continued my training at South Philadelphia Beauty Academy. I have always had a passion about doing hair, and the hair industry. When I was 17 years old, I started in a salon as a shampoo assistant. I slowly moved my way up, and in 1999 the business owner wanted to sell the salon. Not wanting to see it go, I decided to purchase the salon, called Chocolate City Hair Studio.
I have been the owner and operator since 1999 and have moved the salon from a and woodland ave to a larger location at 6217 Woodland Ave. During the past 16 years, my love of being a hair stylist never went away and I remain keeping myself up to date on trends and technologies in the industry. I have been a student at the South Philadelphia Beauty Academy and trained in New York, Atlanta, LA, and Washington DC.
Outside of training, I have also been lucky enough to earn several distinctions not only for my work, but my humanitarian efforts. throughout the city including a humanitarian award from the Philadelphia Full Figured Fashion Weekend, and an award from Unity in the Community and Universal Companies in recognition of Women’s History Month. I also earned an honorable citation from the Philadelphia City Council for my work in my salon, and with my community.
It’s been important for me to remain focused on my community by hiring local employees, supporting minority women, and supporting the economy. As well as offering things such as senior day where we give discounts and we also do a 2x a year pamper day for the seniors where we offer brunch, and free services.
