Help us welcome guests on board the Norda in the Western Isles for Sailing holidays off the beaten tracks between Islands And Whales.
To welcome guests on board the Norda for traditional Sailing Holidays off the beaten tracks between Islands and Whales. Our cruises in the Western Isles will be centred on families with children from 3 years old, groups of friends, clubs and companies.
… is a 1928 Danish built boat, commissioned by the Polish fisheries department as a research vessel in the Baltic to develop new fishing grounds and practices. We bought her at the end of 2014 and sailed her out of the Baltic for the first time in her life. The plan: take her to northern Spain to a shipyard who assured us that they could accommodate the dimensions and draft of such a vessel to completely renovate her to a chartering standard. However, upon arrival we quickly discovered that they were not equipped to handle the work. Combined with the fact that our engine had died and was completely irreparable, we found ourselves doing all the work tied to a fisherman quay with no water or electricity available. All this while living aboard…
One year later, thanks to the help of some friends we are nearing the end of our endeavours but also the end of our finances. We find ourselves looking at the last stretch of the road but not enough petrol in the car to get there….
Some examples of our work progress so far
On the deck, around the mizzen mast and at the prow
So, here we are now…
Quite nice for amateurs, isn’t it?
But still so much to be done
On the deck:
- finish the deck and reinstall gardrails;
- reinstall the engine and steering gear;
- build a new and bigger table on the poop deck to provide a confortable exterior community area.
- install new heads and showers for our guests;
- equip the galley with a new and bigger cooking stove;
- finish all the paintings and electrical fixtures.
A few words about myself
Welcoming guests on board the Norda is a project I hold close to my heart, because the idea of fulfilling and transmitting my passion for traditional sailing has never left me.
Indeed, as a 16 year old, I decided to leave Glasgow behind me and go to work on an old traditional rigged ship where my tasks led me to discover another passion: whales and dolphins.
Today I would like to bring to my clients the authenticity that they are looking for, as well as offering strong emotions and sensations from time gone by, and maybe presenting the opportunity to live childhood dreams. In addition to that I hold dear to me the idea of parents being able to spend an unforgettable vacation with their children without worrying about overspending their budget and safety issues.
