Tomorrow’s Sporting Stars
A project by: YuCycle
Gifted athletes at the University of York are struggling on a student budget; with modest help our students can be the sporting heroes of tomorrow!
YuCycle is a fantastic annual cycling event, this year with 250+ cyclists, which raises money to support our student sportsmen and women with training and travelling costs so that they can achieve new heights of sporting excellence.
Being at University understandably comes with a whole load of financial worries, and for athletes there are extra concerns over equipment, training, physiotherapy sessions and travelling to compete in national and international competitions. That’s where the Performance Programme comes in. The scheme aims to provide support in these areas to the highest performing athletes and clubs, promoting excellence and maximising opportunities to improve sporting performance.
The volunteers taking part in YuCycle have already contributed to the event with their entry fee and energy, but it’s up to you to stretch this fundraiser to our biggest donation total yet!
For the whole of June you’ll be able to donate to this page and support Tomorrow’s Sporting Stars; a gift of just £5 will provide a much needed physio session. Larger amounts will go towards strength and conditioning coaching, equipment, travelling to competitions and lots more!
However much you can give, you’ll be helping students like those shown in our video (coming soon) to achieve greater heights of sporting excellence.
Chris Unsworth, a champion swimmer with 3 gold and 2 silver medals in last years Eurogames, uses his talent as a vessel for LGBT+ inclusion in sport. With your help, the bursary that enables him to train whilst completing a his PhD, will be available to even more students with potential for sporting excellence.
The camaraderie felt by York athletes is “inherently motivational”, and with more athletes being supported in their quest, the more they’ll be able to support others in achieving their own goals.
Keep up to date with our progress by liking us on Facebook or following us on Twitter, and see the results you’ll help to achieve with exclusive interviews of athletes currently being supported by these bursaries.
