Turn Up STEM for rural Africa! One bright and dreamy high school girl at a time; we are changing the face of our rural African communities now and in the future. We cannot do this successfully without you – help our girls get real-life exposure to STEM careers and practices and support them as they apply their learning immediately to solve pressing issues in their communities, ranging from primary healthcare all the way to cool stuff like cosmetics and apps!.
Empowering Future African Leaders! One girl at a time.
#TaunganaAfrica
Taungana is a movement that provides rural high school girls with an opportunity to explore the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Entrepreneurship and Mathematics (STEM).
We believe in a generation of African girls that change their lives and contribute to global sustainable development through science, technology, engineering, entrepreneurship and mathematics – STEM.
Taungana’s flagship programme is the Taungana STEM Expo – an educational STEM career guidance program that gives rural high school girls in the Southern African region an opportunity to connect with real STEM professionals, get exposure to leading STEM organisations, STEM career paths, and most importantly, become STEM promotion ambassadors in their own communities. In addition to being at the forefront of bridging the gap in technology access, literacy and usage at the grassroots level, Taungana Ambassadors also become part of a mentored STEM network supporting their individual journeys in STEM.
Visit our YouTube channel and see what the inspiring Taungana Ambassadors think of the programme and the impact they are creating in their home communities!
The movement started in 2014 and has impacted more than 120 girls in rural high schools of South Africa, Zimbabwe and Zambia. We acknowledge our growth to our generous supporters across the globe.
Turn Up STEM is our theme for 2016, we aim to raise R70000 that will enable all our logistics during our 7 days annual expo program (August 20 – 28, 2016).
Milestone 1: R20 000 and we can get a bus for all our excursions. We are on the go!
Milestone 2: R45 000 and it’s no longer just a bus – we get a coach – nice comfy seats, aircon, TV on board and all!
Milestone 3: R70 000+ and we’ve really done it – refreshments to keep our girls energised, snacks and who knows – maybe we can throw in some t-shirts too #swag.
Taungana Africa is a movement that empowers rural African high school girls with the opportunity to access and explore STEM.
We are a bunch of crazies that believe in the reality of an empowered rural Africa!
We would love to have you on board – make the movement bigger!
