Unique hexagonal watch. Minimalist design. Inspired by the hexagonal rocks of the Giant’s Causeway, built by Irish giant Finn McCool.
Finn Watches is a new, independent watch brand based in Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland is famous for many reasons. It built the Titanic, raised George Best, is the set of the TV show ‘Game of Thrones’ and home to the Giant’s Causeway. Our watches are named after the mythological Irish giant Finn McCool and the design is based on the hexagonal rocks of the Giant’s Causeway, which can be found on the North Coast of Ireland.
I didn’t want to recreate something that had been done before. The aim was to produce something that was stylish, reliable and affordable. I wanted a watch that represented ‘me’ and that had a story. The custom design is completely different to anything a watch enthusiast may already have in their collection and is at a price point that is accessible to all. The collection is Irish designed with a high quality Swiss quartz movement.
Finn McCool was a mythical giant, a hunter-warrior of Irish mythology. There are many tales about this Irish giant. Legend has it that he built the Causeway to Scotland in order to challenge the Scottish Giant Benandonner. The Causeway can still be found on the North Coast of Ireland and on the Island of Staffa in Scotland.
Our watches have a clean, minimalist design but with an original concept that stands out from any other watch on the market. Rather than the standard circular case, we do things differently. The unique case is inspired by the 40,000 hexagonal basalt columns found at the Giant’s Causeway in Ireland.
We have two versions – The Causeway and Fingal’s Cave.
The Causeway is our stainless steel version and Fingal’s Cave has a black Ion Plated coating. Both come with our Swiss Quartz movement (Ronda 713 and a choice of leather strap – black, chocolate and tan.
Our aim was to create a watch that was:
All elements of the watch have been carefully planned and inspired by Finn McCool and the Giant’s Causeway.
Inspired by the hexagonal stones which can be found on the North Coast of Ireland, this stainless steel case has a brushed face and polished sides and contains our Swiss movement.
The black case is inspired by the dark black stones of Fingal’s Cave on the Island of Staffa, just off the West coast of Scotland. It also contains our Swiss movement.
Brushed Stainless Steel 316L – polished sides and back. (Black Ion plated for Fingal’s Cave)
Ronda 713 Quartz movement (Swiss made not Swiss parts)
5ATM (50m waterproof)

Dial/Face:
Hardened mineral glass

When it came to deciding which movement to use for this watch, we went straight to the Swiss Ronda Quartz 713. We wanted to use the best materials, so with the Swiss reputation of high quality, accurate yet affordable movements it was an easy decision.
The Ronda 713 is a 3-hand, 5 jewel, gold plated and long lasting movement. It has a standard battery life of 60 months and with no date window this is the perfect grab-and-go timepiece.
This no hassle watch has the perfect movement for our first range of timepieces.
We are launching with three 22mm wide strap options. They are all Crazy Horse leather and provide a comfortable, durable and unique look to our watches. They come in the following finishes and you can select which one you will receive in our survey, to be sent out once the Kickstarter campaign is complete:
We stand behind the quality of our watches and are proud to offer a 12 month international manufacturer’s warranty on all our watches.
We guarantee that your Finn watch will be free of material defects and warrant the dependable functioning of its movement. If your timepiece malfunctions within the warranty period, we will repair your watch. If we are unable to repair your watch, we will replace it.
We do not cover damage resulting from negligence or arising from normal wear and tear. We define normal wear and tear as scratches and abrasions to the glass, case, band and buckle.
We will provide more information about our warranty on our website after our Kickstarter campaign is complete.
Once the Kickstarter campaign ends on July 15th, we will send out surveys to get your choice of case, dial and strap. We will be using BackerKit which will speed up and improve the survey process. There is a large “To-do” list behind any Kickstarter project and BackerKit will help us automate and streamline our processes, which should in turn provide you with a better service.
We have to wait two weeks after our project ends before we receive our funds from Kickstarter. At this point we will place our order and the manufacturing process will commence.
All backers will be updated throughout the process at each stage so that you are not only informed but can experience the journey of bringing Finn Watches to life.
My name is Richard Dunlop and I am the founder of Finn Watches. I am a father of two (Finn and Cara) with a love of watches. I have been a watch fanatic since as long as I can remember. I blame it on my Grandad who has always shared my passion. The fact that my son’s name is Finn (who just so happens to appear in the Kickstarter video) helped with the concept and I have always loved the Northern Irish scenery and breathtaking views.
I have big plans for Finn Watches and I hope that this is only the start of the journey. I want to create sports chronographs, automatic, dress and women’s watches – but to do that I need your help.
We are working with Eugene Ho on this project and he brings a wealth of watch manufacturing experience. Eugene Ho of Pacific Watchworks grew up in Vancouver, Canada and moved to Hong Kong in 1997 where he began doing product development for well-known brands such as Hugo Boss, Tommy Hilfiger, Timberland, Reebok and Ecko. He works with watch brands in North America focusing on design, materials, samples, prototypes, production and quality control. It is because of Eugene that our watches are made by some amazing craftspeople – people that make watches for Casio, Hugo Boss and Bulova. After creating and testing our fully functional prototypes, we now plan to put the watch into full production and aim to use Kickstarter funding to allow us to place our order with our manufacturer. In return for backing the project, we are delighted to offer a heavy discount off the proposed retail price of £180. We hope that you love the watches as much as we do and that many of you will join us in this journey and be the first to wear a Finn watch.
If you can share, blog, post and comment about Finn Watches and spread our story, you can help this legend become a reality. Thank you so much for being a part of this project!
The goal of this Kickstarter isn’t to just create one watch, it is to create a long-lasting brand of high quality watches. We will do everything in our power to deliver these watches on time and to exceed expectations.

Manufacturing any item takes a lot of hard work and effort, and things sometimes go wrong. I have spent the last 12 months planning, researching and testing this project and the prototypes to reduce the risk of any set backs. I have built a strong relationship with my supplier who has a strong track record with other Kickstarter projects.
It means a lot to me to meet the timelines for this project and I will do everything in my power to do so. I want to build a strong reputation that will help me grow my brand and business.
One of the key elements of any Kickstarter project is communication and I plan on keeping all my backers up to date with the process and highlight any issues or delays if they are to occur. My aim is to be as transparent as possible and to keep all of my backers informed.
