Hello family and friends! As many of you know, I have been a dancer for a while now. Back in April I had the opportunity to audition for a week-long dance intensive with Mark Morris Dance Group. MMDG is based in New York and they perform all over the world. Yo-Yo Ma has called them “the preeminent modern dance organization of our time.” Not long ago I received an email informing me that I had been accepted to the intensive!! This is an opportunity of a lifetime, and any dancer would be beyond honored to meet let alone dance next to the Mark Morris Dance Group. During the intensive I will be taking daily technique classes including modern and ballet and repertory classes. There are supplemental classes as well such as pilates, folk dance classes, and a music lecture from Mark Morris himself. Here is a link to the company’s website if you would like to check it out: http://markmorrisdancegroup.org I am paying for the entire trip myself, because dance is something I love and a hobby of mine that I want to pursue after college. Currently I am working in Hollywood at an internship, but unfortunately it is unpaid. So that leaves me little time to earn the money I need to go to New York. So far I am taking on as many babysitting and dog walking jobs as I can! I am humbly asking if you can sponsor me to attend the Mark Morris Dance Company Summer Intensive in any way, any amount takes a little of the stress off my shoulders. The trip overall is $1,260 and is divided as follows: plane ticket: $380 intensive fee: $375 housing: $275 food and transportation: $230. Purdue Convocations has generously given me a $300 scholarship so I have a good start!
Thank you all for taking the time to read about my ambition and supporting me through my dance career. Ever grateful, Megan
