Extra Funding required to boost the machine fund and get producing Hebridean Landscape yarns on the Isle of Harris.
Knitting has always been a part of Hebridean life, using the leftover yarns from weaving Harris Tweed, It needs to be plied (by machine is best and that was the first crowdfunder) as it comes directly off the “bobban” which has been dyed and spun in the mills on the Isle of Lewis. It makes a unique knitting yarn, with some fabulous rich colours shows the landscape as it is. We hope to be able to offer you some gorgeous knitting yarns from the Outer Hebrides. My last crowdfunder was successful in that it raised part of the funds and I cannot thank the pledgers enough for their help as my main aim was to be able to purchase a wool twister machine that plies wool in 2ply (fairisle work) through to 8ply (Chunky). However there was a shortfall of the amount required for the purchase of the machine due to cancelled pledges and fees, so in order to get back into it while it is still fresh in peoples memories my intention is to send the first batch of yarn already pledged to Cornwall to be made up into gorgeous knitting yarns next week after I’ve been to the local Mill to buy. Then the first crowdfunder backers will get their taste of the Hebrides by the end of June. The project will happen and will benefit us islanders, it just means it will take a while longer to get off the ground. I was probably counting my chickens thinking it would happen so quickly, I hope you will be able to support the next phase of the project by either pledging or spreading the word, We are forever grateful. Every penny helps.
Round 2 pledges will be on a slighly different note, as you will be able to choose from website and not random colours.
Round 2
No 1. Aim will be to top up the machine funds, The Wool Twister actual cost is £11500 includes shipping and insurance to get here onto the island.
No2.Aim to buy the base yarns in bulk from the local mill,
No3.Aim to set up a professionally built website with all available yarn colours and weights from 2ply to chunky for you to choose from. This will of course change as I can only get the colours that are leftover in the mill.
