MEMENTO is a customizable wearable video jewelry piece by mode++. Share your moments with your MEMENTO.
MEMENTO is the world’s first customizable video jewelry piece. MEMENTO is powered by the TinyCircuits TinyDuino Platform and is fitted with a TinyScreen+. You no longer need to carry a picture of your family in your wallet as now you can wear your favorite family moments. MEMENTO can play any video of your choosing.**
**All copyright laws apply, Please ensure that you have the rights to all the videos you upload to your MEMENTO.
You can use the MEMENTO to accessorize, augment your mood or to showcase your own designs. When you invest in an MEMENTO you invest in a content platform, that can carry your personal message.
DESIGNED BY MODE++
The cases are 3D printed in plastic, more precisely white polyamide nylon, and the colors are dyed. The cases are approximately 1.6″ square and 0.7″ deep with 3mm diameter holes for the necklace. The necklace included is an 18″ black rubber necklace. You will be able to choose between 9 different colors of 3D printed enclosures. The nine colors (shown below) are: brown, yellow, blue, orange, pink, green, red, white, and black. Besides the 2 part compression fit enclosure, the kit includes a TinyScreen+ board, a micro SD reader board, a rechargeable Lithium Ion battery, a USB cable to charge the battery, a micro SD card (8 GB) with an SD adapter, and a black silicone rubber necklace. We also include several videos of artists that will ship with the MEMENTO, so you can enjoy it right of the box. You will also have the opportunity to purchase extra cases to swap colors and accessorize your MEMENTO with your mood or outfit.
POWERED BY TINYCIRCUITS
The TinyCircuits TinyDuino is an Arduino compatible board in an ultra compact package. We are using the TinyScreen+ with the SD card reader board in our MEMENTO. This is TinyCircuits’ second generation processor board. It features:
Although this is a fully functional Arduino, we are simply using it to play back videos.
THE INSIDE
Once you open the MEMENTO, the TinyScreen+ is neatly housed in our 3D Printed enclosure.
All you need to do is slide the on button to play (or to remove the microSD card to load your videos onto it). Below is a video showing how to turn on the MEMENTO once your receive it.
When you receive your MEMENTO, you will need to thread your necklace through the case. Below is a video showing how to put the necklace on the case as well as where and how the SD goes in.
You can easily charge the unit while it is in the housing (by removing the front cover) as seen in the video below.
HOW IT WORKS
To play your personal videos on the MEMENTO you will have to convert your videos (e.g.: .mp4) to a TinyScreen+ format and then place those files onto the included micro SD card for the MEMENTO to play. We have developed an online conversion script located on a website (shown below) that will easily convert your videos for playback. There will be a limit in size when uploading your videos for conversion. The included micro SD card (8 GB) will be able to hold several videos. The MEMENTO will play the videos playlist one after another. The battery lasts about 4 hours; this is enough time to showcase your videos on a night out or event. It takes a bit more then 2 hrs to fully recharge the Lithium Ion battery.

WHY KICKSTARTER
MEMENTO is the first project launching from mode++. It is our vision to create different MEMENTO case designs in a variety of materials and to showcase unique video content. In the near future, we will be collaborating with designers and artists to work with us to design custom enclosures and contents specific to their collections which will be released as special editions. We chose KICKSTARTER as a platform for launching MEMENTO as we feel our target audience is one that is active in crowdfunding campaigns. The funding goal would help us as seed money to further develop the MEMENTO platform and to being development on a few other fashion + technology projects in the works
at mode++.
PRODUCTION STATUS
We have finished the protoype. All the images that you see are from our development unit. The colors printed are the actual colors from our service bureau, who we are planning to use to do our production printing. We went through several versions of shapes and iterations and thanks to the new tinyscreen+ arrived at our slimmer design. There is still some slight adjustment to be made to the thickness of the case but overall we really love this shape. As for the hardware tinycircuits is local to us in Akron, OH and we have worked closely with Ken Burns the owner and he has plenty of materials on hand to fulfill our wholesale order aftert the kickstarter closes. His engineer Ben Rose has written the conversion script for the videos. What remains is to thoroughly test the online hosted script and some design of the site that houses it.
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about our tiny project and thank you for your support!

In our artist collaboration //benitez_vogl we have collaborated since the year 2000 and have produced many projects together. Since our design is dependent on 3rd party services such as a 3D printing service and the TinyCircuits TinyScreen+ potential bottlenecks with the availability on the 3D printer or raw materials for the screen could be a possibility. Tinyscreen has nonetheless successfully delivered 1000’s of devices and 3D printing services such as Shapeways or Sculpteo have been reliable vendors to our past projects. Should the Kickstarter project become incredibly successful (over 2,000 units) we would have to stagger delivery. This is reflected by the staggered delivery dates we placed in the different rewards.
