Bet Punk v The Queen is my fifty-somethingth book for children but one I need to publish myself because of its uncompromising republicanism
Bet Punk v The Queen is my fifty-somethingth book for children/young adults and in my opinion one of my best. However, I have no option but to self-publish it. Whereas publishers are only too happy to sell children’s books which toady to the royal family (eg The BFG, Gangsta Granny), they are increasingly nervous of being associated with anything genuinely subversive. I believe the archaic institution of the monarchy survives because children are pretty much brainwashed into supporting it. They need to see an alternative: not in the form of lectures but entertaining and thought-provoking stories. Between 5 and 15 million people in the UK want to see the monarchy abolished. I am appealing to all those republicans to help me get this book published. The money raised will pay for setting up the book (approx £800) and publishing 1000 copies (approx £2700). I shall sell these at cost price and use the income raised to finance the printing of further copies.
Reviews of my radical dystopian novel The Last Free Cat can be found on Goodreads. A list of my published books can be found on my website.
