About this project

Introduction  

“Backers… Thank you for backing our previous campaign…” ​From our previous successful​ly fulfilled​ Kickstarter ​experience and feedback we ​wanted to​ create​​ this ​advanced​ board which could be fun for ​t​inkerer​s​, ​hobbyists​ and g​eeks ​(like us!) ​to control appliances remotely using ​just your​ android phone or ​to ​connect sensors which will magically turn on/off lights​ and appliances making them ‘smart’.​ ​​ ​

W​e ​present to you the “WiFi Quad Relay Board”. An advanced version of our previous ESP8266 based WiFi ​enabled board with which also includes a 100-230V​ ​/5V AC​/​​D​​​​C power supply so that you will be able to connect it directly to AC mains​ – creating ​4 WiFi enabled smart devices at the same time​. It also has the node​ MCU​ ​compatible​ header where you ​can​ connect I2C based devices like an ​O​LED​ or sensors like PIR, IR, Temperature etc​….​ so ​yo​u can not only control four individual appliances but also add sensors and​ displays to make your home as‘smart’ as you​ want.

We ​have​ also​ thrown in an onboard ​USB​ to ​UART​ converter which ​can ​connect to the ​ESP​8266 module and ​can be used to​ program the ​ESP​8266 ​to your​ ​liking​.

Features & Specifications

  • Board consists of 100-240V AC to 5V DC converter
  • Four Relays to connect four AC/DC loads. Both NC/NO connectors of the relay are provided.
  • Can connect additional sensors like PIR, IR, Temperature, Humidity, Limit switch etc.
  • WiFi Quad Relay Board can be programmed as “MQTT Client” for Networking/Home automation integration.
  • SSID and Password can be set directly from the mobile phone web browser using default firmware.
  • LED for Testing which is connected to a GPIO and also as indicator when the relay go on /off.
  • Dimensions of the board are 145 X 60 X 22 mm.

What can we make with a WiFi Quad Relay Board

  • Attiny 85 Microntroller 
  • The board can also connect other standard Bluetooth/Rf modules as the communication is UART based
  • WIFI Smart Switch can be programmed as MQTT Client

  • Has 5V/9V input and the Attiny85 can run at 5V or 3.3V depending on jumper position this will help while interfacing 5V sensors.

Risks and challenges

Every project starts with understanding the risk involved in it . Some are anticipated risk and some surprise us. Having team members who have taken up projects individually and have executed them from design to production, we don’t think we will have any issue in solving the various problem that will be coming on our way. Furthermore, having some team members who specialize in production and quality control, we think we’re well prepared and will execute the project without many hurdles and delay.Also we have successfully completed our first kickstarter campaign so we are now better aware of the risks and challenges.
