This fundraising mission is to raise money to support Peña Pachamama’s artistic programs and enable our creative work to continue. This incredibly special peña is a gathering place for great musicians, artists and musical groups and a frequent comment from the people who come in is ‘this is another order of reality in here!’.
Peña Pachamama, still open after 18 years as a magical, musical, performing venue in the heart of San Francisco’s touristic North Beach district is a triumph of this creative Spirit, of following one’s heart and the subtle inner direction which calls on us to express as best we can our own individual uniqueness.
As musicians in the late 90s, we were just renting a space for a weekend to do our home season concert. Unknown to us, this space turned out to be a landmark location, San Francisco’s most historic speakeasy, and later, the beloved restaurant Amelio’s. Clark Gable fell in love here with Carole Lombard and Joe DiMaggio had his wedding dinner with Marilyn Monroe. It was so full of history, but also of a spirit that resonated with ours. Nourishing a young organic restaurant and cultural center also brought us to an understanding of live foods and our health.
Peña Pachamama’s founders SUKAY and two time Latin Grammy nominee Eddy Navia toured and performed for over 40 years bringing the music and dance of Bolivia and the Andes mountains throughout the world. SUKAY has appears on some of the great stages across America including New York’s Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall, San Francisco’s Herbst Theatre, Masonic Auditorium, Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheater and Vilar Center, Washington DC’s Lisner Auditorium and Smithsonian Institution’s Baird, Arizona’s Roy Disney Center for the Performing Arts and Centennial Hall, Spivey Hall, GA, Scottsdale Center for the Arts, AZ, and the Colisée in Quebec City (opening for Peter Gabriel and Genesis). The group also appeared at festivals in Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg and Toronto, and at Pete Seeger’s Clearwater Festival and countless other venues.
Some of the talented musicians and dancers in this short film include, Chuchito Valdés, Fito Reinoso, Metzi Henriquez, Georges Lammam, Fogo Na Roupa and celebrities Robin Williams and Willie Brown.
We will be grateful for your support of any amount and ask you to help spread the word of this campaign!
