We’re selling out of inventory & need to restock for our growing direct-to-consumer (online) sales.

For this offer, we are raising funds for restocking inventory of our 100% Organic Baobab Powder which is sourced from Southern Africa. Baobab is an African superfood that is great to add into smoothies and other foods to add antioxidants, Vitamin C, Dietary Fiber, and other vitamins and minerals. The Baobab powder is sustainably sourced from low-income communities in Southern Africa.

We’ve had $80K in sales in the past 12 months that have only been limited by inventory constraints and we are excited to utilize the Kickfurther community to grow inventory, sales, and impact in our supplying communities! Our Baobab Powder has a quick turnaround time and we plan to sell this inventory easily before the end of the summer.

About Root Foods, Inc. (dba Bumbleroot Foods)

Bumbleroot dreams up and creates delicious and healthy food and beverages featuring unique and sustainably-sourced ingredients from around the world in the most eco-friendly packaging available. Our first product – Bumbleroot Superfood Hydration Drink Mix – aims to create a larger market for the African superfruit Baobab which is harvested by low-income communities in some of the poorest and most drought prone areas in Africa. We incorporate impact into every aspect of our supply chain.

Bumbleroot sells through a direct-to-consumer model (online), which allows us to tell the stories of our unique ingredients and the harvesters and farmers who are our suppliers. This model also lets us quickly iterate on our products and to communicate directly with our customers (which we love!). And the margins are higher than selling through more traditional wholesale channels.

In addition to our drink mixes, we are also currently selling our 100% Organic Baobab Powder. This powder is the easiest way to get the nutritional benefits of the Baobab fruit.

A Montana native, Sara founded Bumbleroot to provide delicious, unique, and nutritious food products to US consumers and to create income opportunities for the farmers and harvesters who supply the ingredients. Her previous experience includes consulting for the NGO TechnoServe, developing emerging market strategy for a large-risk management firm, and serving as a policy advisor to U.S. Senator Max Baucus and the U.S. Senate Finance Committee on international trade and agriculture issues. She holds both a bachelor’s degree and Masters of Business Administration from the University of Notre Dame.

In Zimbabwe, Sara designed systems to integrate smallholder farmers into the agriculture value chain. Smallholder farmers were willing to work, but lacked access to markets, financing, and training. While in Zimbabwe, she learned about unique foods with fantastic nutritional profiles that grew naturally in many areas of the country. Sara started Bumbleroot to provide a way to connect these farmers to consumers in developed markets, thereby increasing incomes and a paving a better life for the farmers while offering healthier and better tasting beverage and snack food choices to consumers.

Sara believes that by engaging in a dialogue about sustainable food systems and providing delicious, nutritious products, consumers will opt for a fair and sustainable food system by way of their food purchases.

Our 100% Organic Baobab powder is the easiest way to take advantage of the nutritional benefits of the Baobab fruit.

Baobab is a superfruit that has great things, like antioxidants, dietary fiber, vitamin C, vitamin B, calcium, magnesium, and potassium. The fruit – a big, coconut looking thing – comes from Africa’s picturesque baobab tree, known as the “Tree of Life.

One serving (about 2 tablespoons) contains 24% of your daily recommended dietary fiber and 25% of the daily recommended Vitamin C.

And if that wasn’t enough, the fiber in the Baobab fruit pulp acts as a prebiotic – helping your gut grow its good bacteria so that you can better absorb nutrients.

And it’s extremely alkaline with a PRAL value of -52.

Its tangy and slightly sweet taste works well in smoothies, tomato sauce, desserts, and many other foods.  Check out the Bumbleroot Blog for recipes.

For our bodies to function optimally, we should have an alkaline PH blood level. How do we do this? By eating highly alkaline foods. Baobab is on one of the highest alkaline foods around with a PRAL rating of -52.

Baobab trees – also known as the “tree of life” grow in the driest areas in Africa, which are usually also the poorest areas. Income opportunities are scarce and harvesting baobab can provide the people who live in these areas the funds to improve their quality of life.

6. It’s harvested sustainably.

When the fruit is ripe, it falls to the ground and is picked up by harvesters. No damage is done to the tree. In fact, when the fruit brings economic value, the tree has more protection from being harmed or cut down.

The fruit comes in raw, powdered form. It adds a tangy zest when added to food or drinks

8. Cyclists and other athletes love it.

Due to its many antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals – athletes adding Baobab to their diets report enjoying increased energy and lessened recovery times.
