A Penny Lost
By Aspen Bassett
When forgettable Penny Grace becomes the target of an unnatural monster, she must learn how to control her powers in order to get back home.
The project we’ll be working on together is called “A Penny Lost.” It’s 276 pages long, at just under 83,000 words. I’m currently working on the fifth draft. It’s a coming of age story about a young teenage girl who has the ability to see auras/the energies around her and therefore feels like an outcast. But when a crack in time steals her from her time, she must embrace her natural abilities in order to return home.
Now, Penny and a genius (not to mention cute) boy who can’t remember anything, must hop from time to time in order to get back home. From the Titanic, to the newly built Globe theater, and even to a disastrous future, Penny must learn how to control her powers if she ever wants to see her family again. But the deeper she gets, the more Penny learns she might not just be a social outcast. In fact, she might not even be human.
This speculative fiction deals with the energies all around us and the powers they hide. Penny’s powers allow for a thought-provoking urban fantasy which begs the question: are Penny’s powers unnatural or is it a talent we could all achieve? This manuscript is the first book of a trilogy. The other two books have already been mapped out and are in the works.
I’ve been published in multiple anthologies, including Crossed Genres: Oomph A Little Power Goes a Long Way and Innacurate Realities. One such published short story titled“Tip of the Iceberg” actually inspired this manuscript.
Because it’s your money, you have a right to know where it’s going, don’t you think? That’s why I’ve included a financial plan for you to look over before you back my campaign. These prices are a low ended estimate based on the rates I’ve researched for this manuscript.
Developmental Editing (plot, characters, and all that juicy stuff we read for): approximately $2,500
Copy editing (so those pesky typos don’t knock you out of the zone): $1,000
Cover Design: (because books are judged by their covers): $150
Marketing and Reviews (because what’s the point of making something if we don’t share it?): $400
There you have it! That’s what I plan and promise to do with the money. If you think it’s a good idea, please pick a reward you want and enjoy the updates I’ll post as the campaign continues. And don’t forget, every Penny counts!
