Help support this Brooklyn dance collective as they enter the final stages of presenting a new work BASED for two shows this Spring.
The Project: Take a look! We need your support for May and June performances of BASED.The show is equal parts dance party and litmus test. This is a dominant physical performance created by diverse dance artists “based” in electronic, gospel & rap music with the overlay of religious sects, literary genre and popular culture. BASED questions the importance of personal perspective and self-actualization in a culture dominated by group thinking and gut reactions.
seymour::dancecollective is a group of dance artists from Brooklyn, NY. By working intensively in a process encouraging collaborative rapport and the free exchange of ideas we create work that boldly crosses cultural and aesthetic boundaries.

Since 2012, we have presented original work throughout NYC at the Center for Performance Research (CPR), Dixon Place, WAX Works, The Brooklyn Dance Festival, Triskelion Arts, The Current Sessions, The Secret Theater, Gibney Dance and Movement Research at Judson Church among others. The collective works on a project-to-project basis with a rotating roster of curated artists.
We pay our artists!
All of these talented individuals have given their time to this project pro-bono. Now it is critical we raise the funds compensate them for their time. This work cannot happen without their effort and your help!
seymour::dancecollective is fortunate to have presenter and producer costs covered by CRAWL and Triskelion Arts.
Not included is $5,000.00 in costs for artist stipends, rehearsal space, and marketing costs.
BASED is an independent art venture. This translates to a challenge to balance life/work/art; we lose an artist to injury or regular work that pays the rent. We coordinate individual schedules and take on the challenge of attracting audiences. We work to dance.
You can help pay for the completion of BASED, and help assure the value of art in a world that can be perplexed, provoked and inspired by independent performance.
