Help natural skin care business move forward!

I have begun a website and a blog called Pure Homespun. I want to show people that they can feel naturally radiant, healthy, and beautiful through simple choices that don’t have to turn your life upside down. Simple changes to the ways we eat, our lifestyle, and our beauty routine can deliver big results. I’ll be starting with ways to take care of your skin using natural and organic ingredients that are certain to help you feel healthy and beautiful!

Many of the cosmetics we use, as well as other things around us, have chemicals that are harmful. Add to this pesticide on produce, processed foods, fire retardants on furniture and carpeting, water-resistant coatings on clothing, and you start to get the picture. We are exposed to chemicals everywhere. These days we live longer and have better health care but still there is an increase in diseases like cancer, autoimmune diseases, and lung diseases – like asthma..

It makes sense to start protecting ourselves where we can. Our skin is our biggest organ and while it may seem like there is less risk from putting things on our skin than the things we eat or breathe, this isn’t true. What we put on our body ends up in our body. Think of those patches that release medication into your system slowly over time. Many skin care products have ingredients to help them penetrate more deeply. From there they can easily reach our bloodstream and will end up in our liver and other organs or stored in fat tissue.

I believe that using more natural and organic products will make a difference in your life. You will see great results and you will feel better.  I have begun building the website and it’s looking good. If you’d like to look at it, here’s a link. It’s been a learning experience and I feel good about how things are coming together. The address is www.purehomespun.com. There is an About page that tells more about how Pure Homespun came to be and some personal bits on how I got here. I’m very excited about helping people find healthier solutions and can’t wait to offer  products for sale that I know people will love.

Natural and handmade are ideas close to my heart and I think people are empowered by learning how to lead a more self-sufficient life. These ideas also go hand in hand with a healthier lifestyle.  I am hoping to contribute to that with this website but there are things I will need to make this a reality. In order to make the tutorials for my recipes as well as the products for sale, I will need to buy the ingredients, packaging, and shipping supplies. There are a few other incidentals too. I hope that with your help getting these basic things, I will have what I need to create something self-sustaining that will take me into the future.

I intend to make tutorials on a wide range of products. From basics like moisturizers, cleansers, and facial scrubs, to things like sunscreen, shampoo, and deodorant. As for things to sell, I want to start out offering a basic selection:

  • ·  Facial oil cleanser –  Cleaning your face with oil may sound counterintuitive but it will do wonders for your skin. Most cleansers will strip the skin of it’s natural oils leaving your skin unbalanced. It will then overcompensate by producing more oil. Excess oil can lead to more problematic skin. An oil cleanser will bind with the dirt and impurities, leaving you with clean, hydrated skin with a balanced pH. Plant-based oils can address many different skin concerns, from acne to anti-aging. Great oils for cleansing are,  jojoba oil, castor oil, hazelnut oil, sunflower oil and many others, depending on your skin type.
  •   Facial oil moisturizer – If you clean with an oil cleanser, it’s possible you may not even need to moisturize all of the time. For those times when you do, this is a great choice, as it absorbs quickly, and leaves your skin glowing with a silky smooth finish. Traditional lotions are made from oils, water, and emulsifiers to hold them together. Why not pare things down to the most potent ingredients?   I think people worry it will leave their skin feeling greasy but this isn’t the case. Plant-based oils are ultra-hydrating, full of antioxidants and vitamins. Like a super-food for the skin. Some of the best for moisturizing skin are argan oil, rosehip oil, apricot kernel oil, grapeseed oil, sweet  almond oil, as well as many others.
  • . Lotion bars – This a solid and very convenient form of moisturizer. It is activated by your body’s warmth as you hold it in your hands or rub on your body. It is especially great for hands, feet, and elbows but can be used anywhere you need it. Made with shea butter, coconut oil, beeswax, and essential oils, it is a very rich and long lasting moisturizer.
  •  Moisturizing Sugar Scrub – Exfoliation helps keep your skin feeling soft and smooth as it sluffs off dead skin cells, making room for new cells. It will increase blood circulation when massaged on to skin and organic cane sugar has the added benefit of alpha hydroxy acids. This scrub has very moisturizing ingredients like shea butter or coconut oil, as well as things like green tea for it’s antioxident effects.

This may seem like a very small selection but there will be variations on each item for different skin types and  sizes. So this seems like a good place to start. I have had good success with each of these recipes and they will all be made with organic, natural ingredients. Your skin will love you!

I have a lot of passion for this and believe that offering these things will make people’s lives better. Your skin is your body’s largest organ and what you put on it can end up in your blood stream or fat tissue. By using products like the ones here or making your own you can be sure you are using products  that will keep you healthy and beautiful without any parabens, phthalates, or other nasties.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask! I am interested in any thoughts you may have about what I’m creating. The more feedback I can get the more likely I’ll end up with something people want.

Here’s a list of the 5 DIY skin care recipes you can choose. I’ll send you a list of supplies as well as a tutorial.

Sugar Scrub

Lip Balm

Lotion Bar
