The Market Overton Play Area.
The Market Overton Play Area Association welcomes you to play your part for healthy happy kids
We are working with the Lodge Trust Country Park to create the most accessible and inclusive outdoor family play area in Rutland.
The Market Overton Play Area has been open 17 years and has provided a wonderful, rural, safe play facility for children from all over Rutland. Families from local counties and special needs schools also use the play area regularly.
Our current location has served us well, but in order to meet the growing needs of inclusivity and accessibility for all we now need to relocate to the nearby Lodge Trust Country Park, also in Market Overton.
As well as maintaining a play area for families in Market Overton and surrounding villages, this move will also provide users with parking, toilet facilities, a café and open space in which to run around in, exercise and play in safety.
Our current equipment is now too costly or unsafe to repair and keep in service and will not survive the relocation. If we were not relocating, within two years the park would have to close due to lack of equipment.
Our target represents a requirement of £35,770 for the new play area equipment and installation to the required standards. We have already received a generous grant towards this target as well as existing funds totaling £20,556 so our new target is £15214. However we see the project as an ongoing investment, and continually meet in order to maintain and keep the play area running smoothly.
Who we are:
We are the Market Overton Play Area Association (MOPAA). A group of local parents who actively work to maintain and develop safe, accessible and inclusive play opportuinities for families in the village. We hold regular fund-raising events to ensure the equipment can be regularly maintained with the required upkeep and insurance and also with the aim of installing new equipment in the future
Why are we doing this?
A recent Play Equipment Inspection has highlighted that much of the play equipment, in spite of the ongoing support is coming to the end of its usable life and we have already had to remove several items for safety reasons. In addition we recognise that the park is being increasingly enjoyed and appreciated by families around a much wider area with varying needs beyond the scope of the current location.

About the Lodge Trust Country Park:
The Lodge Trust on Main Street, Market Overton, is a residential provision for adults with learning disabilities. It comprises a country parkwww.lodgecountrypark.org.uk with log cabin holiday accommodation, additional camping facilities and also a cafe and shop.
The new location is secure, it has plenty of off road parking, accessible toilets, a cycle / running track and beautiful grounds for outdoor sports and picnics. The whole site was created to be fully accessible and our aim is to create a play space for that will be the most inclusive outdoor play space in Rutland
Some of the equipment we wish to fund:
We hope to establish a play area this year on the site but we see this as the start of developing an area for families that can be enjoyed over many years to come, and is inclusive to all.
