My students need programmable robots, microphone, and a DSLR camera to expand our existing Computer Science club to allow more students to join.
A typical day in our classroom includes reading, writing and math. However, it includes so much more! It includes so much that my colleagues and I volunteered to form a Computer Science Club to teach 21st Century Skills, like coding, robotics and multimedia productions in a fun environment.
My highly active, eager to learn students come from the poorest part of Santa Ana, with almost 100% of the students receiving free or reduced lunch.
They have had to endure one of the most violent months in the city’s history this year, and yet they still persist in trying to do their best. These students want to succeed, and really want to improve their lives. However, many students don’t have many books in the home, let alone computers or media equipment.
Students will use these materials as part of our Computer Science Club. They will learn to program robots for different tasks, write computer code and create multimedia presentations and video, and create student made movies. These activities will help students with logical thinking, problem solving, creative writing and storytelling, and effective communication.
These donations will allow us to grow our current Computer Science club from 20 members to 30 members.
Students in this club learn 21st century job skills, creative outlets of expression, and have a positive experience that connects them to the school. This will help them be emotional healthy, contributing members of society now and in the future.
