My students need four balance ball chairs and four bean bag chairs.
Adolescent students are too often expected to sit in a desk all day. An option in seating will help create a comfortable environment for these students to learn.
My students are from a small town and the majority receive free lunch.
Most get up early and SIT on the bus, then get to school and SIT in a desk, then SIT on the bus on the way home. All of these are confining to the student. Our school is dedicated to creating an environment where students are comfortable, and learning is engaging and rigorous.
Eight new seating options, such as bean bags and balance chairs, will give students a choice when they arrive in my room. I hope these options will create an ideal discussion environment for various projects. I hope they will be more comfortable physically in groups and also learn to be more comfortable talking in a group like setting that is more conducive to how a real life job meeting may feel.
Currently, the only way my students discuss in groups in my classroom is by putting square desks together.
These donations will allow students a choice for group work and discussions that mimic a real work setting. My goal is to prepare my students for life after high school. The ability to communicate to other effectively is pertinent to success as an adult. These seating options will aid in this effort.
