In most Latin American countries, road transport generally plays a dominant role in the movement of freight. Rail networks, usually considered a more sustainable and efficient method of transport, have not been sufficient in size and scope. However, railways are now set to take on greater importance in Latin America, especially for freight transport, as plans for restoring lines and building rail corridors begin to materialize. This report highlights the expanding rail networks across the region. |
