Neris extends your car’s alarm to protect your bikes, skis, trailer, toolbox, etc. for your active lifestyle

About this project

More than 2.5 million bikes are stolen and over 2 million cars, trucks, trailers, campers, and boats are broken into every year in the US.

It’s time to put those staggering numbers behind us! Neris is a small embedded device that extends your car’s anti-theft alarm system. Neris allows you to use your own key fob to lock and protect your bike racks, ski racks, trailers, toolboxes, etc. In the event of a theft your car’s alarm system will sound and you will be notified via an app on your smartphone. By using Neris you can protect whatever toy or tool you use in your active lifestyle.

How It Works

Neris Sensor
Neris Sensor

Neris is a pressure sensitive device that extends the car’s security to any equipment on the vehicle. Simply place the Neris receiver (or brain) of Neris securely under the hood or dashboard. The Sensor is pressure activated and can then be placed under your equipment anywhere on or around the vehicle. Neris allows as many additional Sensors as needed. A Neris Repeater may be required for larger trailers to ensure the alarm communications reaches the Neris Receiver mounted in your vehicle.

Once you have downloaded our IOS or Android app enter the Sensor mode, hold the button down on the Sensor and your cell phone will connect. Then using the cars original key fob, alarm the car. Neris is now alarmed, it’s that easy.

In the event of a theft the Neris Receiver will be alerted, your car’s alarm will sound and your smartphone will notify you your Neris Sensor has detected a theft.

Protect Your Things

Trailers. Skis. Boards. Bikes. Boats. Jet skis. Toolboxes. Campers. Kayaks. ATVs. Skyboxes. Doors. Windows. Motorcycles. Surfboards.

Whatever toy or tool you use in your active lifestyle NERIS can protect it.

The Neris App

The Neris application is used to monitor your items when you are not near your vehicle. The app will notify you in the event of a theft when your item has been moved or opened. The app also allows you to add, disable, or remove a Neris sensor from the receiver allowing for more toys and tools to be protected. Our application is compatible with Android and Apple devices.

Size. Neris was designed with the importance of size in mind. We spent countless hours trying to create a product small enough to fit under your bike wheels but sturdy enough to withstand the weight of an ATV. 4.5cm in length by 2cm wide.

Strong. While Neris is a very small device it is made to be strong. Neris will stand up to the toughest environments. With our innovative case design we transfer weight of your gear from the top of the sensor through the body to the bottom of the case allowing for a small and compact design.

Water Resistant. Neris is made to be used on your vehicle which means Neris is sure to get wet. We designed Neris to have minimal parts so the chance of water getting into the device is low. We’ve waterproofed Neris with coatings to protect the sensor from the elements.

Long-Lasting Battery. Size, strength and security would be useless if you had to worry about your battery. We made Neris with a long life battery that will last up to three to four years of normal use.

Security. The Neris Receiver uses Bluetooth LE 4.1 to communicate with your smartphone. The Neris sensors on the other hand uses Bluetooth LE 4.0 to securely communicate with the Neris Receiver.

Neris was created and designed by James Hardy and Joe Graham. James is an age group World Class Triathlete and Joe is an avid cyclist and father of two. The idea for Neris was conceived in the spring of 2014 after a long bike ride and a bite to eat at a nearby restaurant. Leaving expensive bikes unattended is not an option and finding a table near a window isn’t always easy. After realizing the need for bike and gear security the two began brainstorming over lunch.

More than two years were spent researching anti-theft systems, creating and re-creating prototypes and making the sensors as small as possible to finally bring you the world’s first and only anti-theft system for your gear.

Risks and challenges

Our team has years of embedded systems development experience. We know what it takes to make and deliver quality products to our customers. We want Neris to work 100% of the time and have spent months designing, testing, and refining our design. We will continue testing to making improvements to our firmware as needed.

However, every project carries with it certain risks. The most common risks are potential delays in tooling, obtaining raw materials, packaging, and shipping. While we feel we have reduced these variables as much as possible, they can never be completely eliminated.

At the end of the day it is very important to us to give frequent updates about our progress so you’ll always be informed about the status of the project, as well as be available to answer any of your questions. We aspire to be open, honest and available to you every step of the way.
