KIMBERLY LEE – TO BE THE FIRST CHINESE CANADIAN IN THE WNBA
Hi! My name is Kim Lee. I am a 5’10” Shooting Guard from Toronto, Ontario and currently reside in Calgary, Alberta. My ultimate goal is to be the first Chinese Canadian to play in the WNBA.
At age 29, I hit a crossroad that let me reflect on whether I wanted to continue my career in IT consulting or put it on hold to finally pursue my lifelong dream. I decided to prove that it’s never too late and have been training several hours a day to play professional basketball overseas and, eventually, the WNBA.
As I prepare for this feat, both mentally and physically, I could really use your help! One of the biggest challenges and downsides of training is that money is involved. There are travel costs, facility fees, and sports therapy requirements, just to name a few of the expenses I’ve encountered so far.
Here is a breakdown of the expenses over the next year:
-travel, accommodations, and registration fees for 3 WNBA combines ($4000)
-travel, accommodations, and registration fees for tryouts in Europe leagues ($6000)
-travel, accommodations, and registration fees for tryouts in Asia leagues ($6000)
-sports therapy expenses ($2500)
-facility membership fees ($2500)
-competitive basketball league and tournament fees ($2500)
-supplements and miscellaneous training gear/equipment ($1500)
To show my appreciation for your support, I’m offering a number of different givebacks.
