My students need 2 laptop computers to type their written work and do research on the Internet.
My students are hard working students who want to both meet end-of-the-year academic benchmarks and become world class citizens. We have minimal technology in our classroom and in order for my students to compete with other students across the country and the world, they need access to technology!
My school is a charter school in a large urban area.
We are a school that believes every child can learn and we work with all students regardless of academic or behavioral challenges. We hold them to high academic standards and believe with the right support, they will achieve greatness! Many students are English language learners who want to be successful but do not always have the necessary tools. We are in an old building with minimal technology. We recently received iPads but before that, my students had no opportunity to learn 21st century skills such as how to conduct research on the computer. My students are extremely eager to learn and want to meet all the academic and social goals set for them on a daily basis. They care deeply about their friends and teachers and want to do what is best. They deserve to have technology in their classroom like many other students in this country.
Having two laptops in the classroom will benefit the students in many ways. For instance, we have several students who have difficulty with handwriting and getting their ideas out on paper. Having laptops in the classroom will enable those students to type their writing pieces, which will greatly benefit them. In addition, we have several research projects in fifth grade, but no access to the Internet in order to do the research. Our research has been solely in books, and while this is a beneficial skill, it does not teach them all the research skills they need in order to be successful in the 21st century. Our classroom also has literacy centers and math centers. There are amazing math websites that allows students to watch videos about all math topics and levels, from preschool to college, and then practice the skills. I would love to see my students use this on a regular basis during math centers. Giving my students access to technology will help them become more well rounded!
By having access to laptops in the classroom, my students will learn necessary skills about technology that they are not necessary get anywhere else.
They need to learn about Internet safety, how to type, and how to do research. My students deserve the best and by giving them laptops, it helps me make sure they get the best.
