The more I researched, the more it became clear that these opinions stemmed from one of a few things.
1. They’d seen an Australian musical that they didn’t like and it had turned them off Australian work.
2. The only articles written about Australian musicals at the time were negative, and no one was talking about the good stuff.
3. They’d heard it from someone else and believed it.
Fortunately, since then, with the introduction of events such as ‘Home Grown’, ‘New Musicals Australia’, and the support of many of our performing arts universities, people have begun to realise that there is some amazing work being written by Aussie writers, and the word is starting to spread.
But we are still left with the problem: no producers are taking the chance on Australian work.
That is where we come in.
Golden Soil Productions is a company dedicated to the encouragement, nurturing, and developing of Australian musical theatre. We are looking to find new works to support, and to give the chance to thrive, as well as looking through our history to find shows that deserve another chance to show how good they are and can be.
We are going to change the way people think about Australian musicals and to forge a new future, where Australian musicals are celebrated and supported just as they should be.
We hope you will join us.
They will help to cover some of the upfront costs that we can’t defer until after the show.
These costs include: venue costs, production rights, rehearsal spaces, advertising, and a budget for the set, props and costume departments.
Fortunately, we have a dedicated team of passionate individuals who are willing to give of themselves to make this happen, but finding the money and the support from the greater community is our greatest challenge.
