In 2014 whilst travelling in Nepal on motorcycles my husband and I met a sociology student Bishwash in Kathmandu. He also works full-time for the NGO Community Self Reliance Centre (CSRC) promoting Land and Agrarian rights for displaced and exploited people in Nepal.
After the earthquake in April villages within the remote mountainous Langtang region near the northern border into China, amongst many others, were destroyed. This was an area familiar to Bishwash as this is where he grew up.
The CSRC have been active throughout Nepal assisting with building temporary shelters and distributing food and blankets. This included the village of Itpare – there are 42 households; the average size of families is 5. One blanket has been donated per household for the winter by the CSRC; temperatures regularly drop below zero and the cold weather will last now for many months. There is an urgent need for more blankets.
Joe and I are attempting to help Bishwash raise the $4500 required to give one good quality woollen blanket to each household. This constitutes $70 per blanket plus transport costs to northern Nepal.
We would be extremely grateful for any support anyone could give us for this cause
