Most people, even if they have never dived, have heard of ‘the Bends’. This is a condition where divers ascend too fast after spending time underwater breathing compressed air.
The risk of this happening can be reduced by, among other things, reducing the amount of Nitrogen in the air in the SCUBA cylinder.
This is achieved by replacing some of that Nitrogen with Oxygen – enriching the air which is called Enriched Air Nitrox (EAN).
Here at Merimbula Divers Lodge, we use a special compressor to produce EAN for divers. However, we don’t want to upset our neighbors which means we have to restrict the times we run the Nitrox compressor.
We want to install a ‘Nitrox Bank’ where we store EAN so we can dispense it as requested – offering our customers a fast, easy, reliable source of EAN any time of day.
Our target amount will allow us to store up to 90000 l of EAN. With intelligent system design and use, we will be able to fill 15 tanks with EAN before we need to run the compressor.
