My name is Tariq Mangum. I was born and raised out of West Philadelphia. I enjoyed sports and math as a child. In 2006, I was in a tragic car accident and it changed my life forever. I had to learn how to breathe, talk, eat, and do everything all over again like I was a child.
I overcame a lot of things but it was because of my support system that kept me going. So in 2012, I founded Mangum Foundation to support veterans, persons with physical and mental disabilities, homeless persons, and youth. Not only have we done work with those communities, we are now powering something called the Athletic Club of Fairhill, a non-profit soccer club for young children ages 6 – 11 in North Philadelphia.
By being in a tragic car accident at a young age it changed my perception in life to help people like me that need assistance in a time of need. The reason I started this foundation is because I want to give back to communities while uplifting individuals in time of need.
This is my second Kiva Zip loan, and I’m happy to be part of such a supportive community of lenders!
The mission of the Mangum Foundation is to assist veterans, persons with physical and mental disabilities, homeless persons, and the youth, by creating jobs, providing clothing, food and eventually shelter. The purpose of the Mangum Foundation is to improve communities through outreach programs and events, which assist in raising funds that allow it to provide its services for the identified segments.
For more than two years the Mangum Foundation has helped hundreds of senior citizens, physically disabled, less fortunate, mental health patients, youth and soldiers. These individuals excel physically and mentally through a vast array of programs and events.
The Mangum Foundation programs, such as the Athletic Club of Fairhill, are strong alternatives to drugs, violence and crime prevention while also giving our youth, elders, physically disabled, less fortunate, mental health patients, youth and soldiers the opportunity to participate in an organized and productive experience. The Mangum Foundation programs are highly structured and team oriented that give productive, meaningful, value driven opportunities during times of need.
Achievement, teamwork, cooperation, giving back, volunteering and pride in our core values of the program are the main focus of The Mangum Foundation
This loan will help with maintaining longevity for the Mangum Foundation programs, events and projects for communities in the Philadelphia area. This investment will help communities for years ongoing. The Mangum Foundation can assist hundreds of people in need. Loan can be repaid by clothing sales, event ticket sales, fundraisers and wrist band sales.
