I always knew that I wanted to start a business, helping people who struggled with food related issues, such as emotional eating and weight management. And by always, I mean, since I was in my early 20’s. Having struggled with eating disorders in my youth, I knew that I had to learn a whole set of tools to fulfill my dream, both for myself and through education and work experience. And 20 years later, the time is just right.
In the video above, you’ll find an example of a homework assignment, that will be included in our program. If you haven’t already, please add me on Snapchat, Skillsbyme. As the video says, step on to your scale and remain on it, as long as it takes to notice your weight and at least 3 thoughts that runs through your head. And then, snap me your thoughts, all together or one by one. I’ll get back to you. And remember, I’m just a snap away.
So many people are struggling with obesity, overweight and emotional eating. You perhaps, one of your friends or family members. It’s an ongoing battle, sometimes for life and it can be both painful and frustrating.
Going to a meeting of any kind, weight watchers, therapist or to the gym, requires the person, who is struggling to leave the house. Most of the time, that’s no problem at all. When any person makes changes, such as eating more healthy motivation sometimes varies from day to day and change in itself can come with a lot of resistance and possible avoidance, which makes it easy to quit any diet- or foodplan. Often it’s difficult for a therapist or the coach, who is supporting the client to connect with him or her on a daily basis and pick up on their currant motivation.
Skills by me – The project consists of an online video course (10 episodes in Swedish) in CBT skillstraining, dealing with emotional eating instead of going on a diet. Besides the video lectures, Snapchat will be used for exercises, homework assignments and journal. This project differs from other weight management programs, at least in Sweden in that it utilizes Snapchat for direct contact and the possibility to get insight into the clients daily life and ability to work with his or her motivation, resistance and avoidance. It also differs in that it targets emotions and thinking, instead of foodplans and exercise. Most people have a good idea of what to eat and where to find good trainers, but might experience more difficulty to stand not to eat when feeling stressed, alone or restless.
Social media allows Skills by Me to be in your face, so to speak and will add some fun to this course. We provide an opportunity for the client to use his or her smartphone, ipad or computer instead of having to go somewhere else. Why is this important? Because you can’t avoid your smartphone, can you? And Skills by Me is just a snap away to guide the client through skillstraining, and help him or her learn how to manage his or her weight now and in the future.
Skills by Me is a course in beating emotional eating (10 episodes in Swedish). There will be a membership website, where the client can watch the videos and see keep track of their homework assignments. Besides the membership website, all contact between Skills by Me and the participants will be on Snapchat. The participants will report on their homework, daily activity and motivation through this media and Skills by Me will give them feedback and motivation, the same way.
The Process After the client registered on Skills by Mes website, they will receive a confirmation, an intro-video and a first snap, all in 24 hours from me.
